Spoiler Alert: The following story contains major plot twists and ending details from ‘The Drama’.

A24’s latest release, ‘The Drama’, which arrived in theaters on April 3, brings together Zendaya and Robert Pattinson, playing a couple on the brink of marriage. At first glance, it feels like a familiar setup: two people preparing for a wedding, surrounded by friends, dealing with the usual stress. But that happy vibe does not last long. The turning point comes during what should have been a harmless pre-wedding outing: a menu tasting. The couple was joined by their closest friends, including their best man, Mike (Mamoudou Athie), and matron of honor, Rachel (Alana Haim). Suddenly, Rachel throws out a question that changes the entire mood. She asks each person to share the worst thing they have ever done.

When it’s Emma’s (Zendaya) turn, she does not hesitate much before revealing something terrible. She tells the group that, as a teenager, she once planned a mass shooting at her school because she was bullied there. At first, the others laugh it off, assuming she’s exaggerating or trying to shock them. But Emma keeps going. She talks about specifics, about using her father’s gun, practicing in the woods, and damaging her hearing in one ear during those sessions. For Charlie (Robert Pattinson), that moment hits like a brick. The woman he’s about to marry is not who he thought she was. That uncertainty sits with him, growing heavier as the wedding approaches. What unsettles him even more is Emma’s explanation for why she did not go through with the plan. It was not a moral awakening or a last-minute change of heart.

Instead, another violent incident occurred nearby around the same time, disrupting her intentions. From that point on, Charlie is stuck in his own head, questioning everything. As the wedding day arrives, Charlie’s doubts have not exactly disappeared. In fact, they seem to push him toward a decision that only complicates things further. He ends up sharing a kiss with his coworker. At the reception, Misha (Hailey Gates) tells Emma what happened, and that revelation triggers a chain reaction. Blake (Michael Abbott Jr.), Misha’s boyfriend, finds out and confronts Charlie in the middle of the celebration. What follows is not subtle. Blake headbutts Charlie while he’s attempting to give a troublesome speech. And despite everything, the wedding still goes ahead. Emma and Charlie do get married. However, if you are expecting a neat, happy ending, this film will not give you that.

At this point, their relationship is hanging by a thread. The final scenes take a quieter approach. After the reception, Charlie returns to their apartment, still dressed in his blood-stained tuxedo, only to find that Emma is not there. He heads to a diner the two of them used to visit, almost out of habit. Emma walks in, still wearing her wedding dress, and sits across from him. Instead of picking up where they left off, she introduces herself as if they were strangers meeting for the first time. It is a strange choice, but Charlie goes along with it. The two begin to talk, flirt, and interact like people at the very start of a relationship, not a couple who just went through a disastrous wedding day. That’s where ‘The Drama’ leaves things. Whether that reset is genuine or just another way of avoiding the truth is left open.
