'Tell Me Lies' Season 3 Ending Explained: Does Oliver get away? Lucy and Pippa share some dark confessions
When it comes to learning from one's past mistakes, the characters on Hulu's 'Tell Me Lies' do not seem to be quite on the same page. The recently aired finale episode of 'Tell Me Lies' season three, titled 'Are You Happy Now, That I'm On My Knees?', concluded with Pippa, Diana, Wrigley, Bree, and Evan circling the same patterns of lying and walking on eggshells around each other. The show conclusively dealt with both of its timelines, viz., the college years between 2008 and 2010 and the post-2015 era, marked by several characters entering married life. Here's everything that happened.
One of the areas in which the Hulu show's third and final season excelled was in establishing that certain characters can't help but hurtle down a path of self-destruction. For instance, Bree found herself worn down by the trauma that resulted from her relationship with Professor Oliver. When Bree's mother arrived on campus, she didn't do it merely out of concern for her daughter, but to settle the persistent rumors she had been hearing about her daughter's affair. The confrontation that followed involved Oliver and Marianne claiming victimhood while painting Bree as the one who is obsessed and emotionally unstable. Things did not end well for Bree, as her mother ultimately blamed her.
Elsewhere on the finale of 'Tell Me Lies' season three, Pippa and Lucy shared their uncomfortable secrets, not knowing that this would cause their relationship to go downhill. As Pippa revealed to Lucy that she had cheated on Wrigley, Lucy recalled sleeping with Evan back in 2009 at the Hawaiian party. Both of them realized that some truths are better left forgotten, and thereafter, the friendship between Lucy and Pippa would never be the same again. Once Pippa opened up to Wrigley about her crimes and confessed to being gay, the latter was remarkably supportive. Nevertheless, he hides the fact that he had kissed Bree.
Wrigley eventually seeks to reconcile with Bree, which initially seemed like a bad idea when Bree called him out on his misdemeanors and his affair with Pippa. In his defense, Wrigley advocated that his sleeping with Pippa was unconscious and that he would like to reconcile with Bree. Lucy, driven by her own insecurity, gatecrashed Stephen's Yale acceptance party and warned a representative about his manipulative nature before being booted from the venue. Things didn't go well for Stephen and Lucy: both lost their seats at the coveted college, with Stephen's acceptance being withdrawn and Lucy being expelled. All in all, it is fair to say that 'Tell Me Lies' season three was able to bring the narrative to a fitting end. However, it remains uncertain whether any of the characters will ever find redemption. 'Tell Me Lies' is exclusively available on Hulu.
