‘Survivor’ Season 50 premiere sends legend packing despite protests as shocking medical emergency rocks Fiji
The historic 50th season of 'Survivor' recently debuted on CBS with an epic three-hour-long premiere. The current season assembled the largest cast in the history of the reality television show, bringing together 24 contestants, ranging from Jenna Lewis-Dougherty from the show's first-ever season to the winner of the last season, Savannah Louie. As the premiere took off, the contestants laughed and shared their takes on the game before facing the first challenge of the 50th season.
The Vatu tribe was the first one to secure the fire for themselves after emerging victorious in the marooning challenge. Soon after, each tribe was required to designate one member to compete for the remaining supplies. Coach, Q, and Ozzy stepped up to the challenge. The subsequent contest between Coach and Ozzy was reminiscent of the former dramatic showdowns that have so frequently lit the show up. As he grabbed the key, Coach was crowned the winner of the challenge.
Elsewhere, the camp soon devolved into budding alliances as the contestants' groups quickly began targeting the weaker contenders. Stephenie and Colby struck up a friendship and later teamed up with Geneieve and Kyle. A fashion show was presented, with Geneieve flaunting her pea coat.
On the other hand, Dee, Tiffany, and Kamilla tested the waters with Kalo. Dee, the winner of 'Survivor' Season 45, was the centre of attraction for the other factions who wanted Dee in their ranks. Things didn't look too good for Cirie after she failed to deliver in the first immunity challenge, costing her tribe precious time and ultimately leading to their loss.
Soon enough, the first tribal council convened, and all the contestants voted to cast out Jenna, who was the first person to bid farewell to Fiji. Nevertheless, no one could have guessed what soon followed. An obstacle in the immunity challenge required the contestants to climb up a steep wall while being covered in mud. It was during this challenge that Kyle hurt his foot.
Although the rest of his team worked together to finish the challenge with the immunity that they were granted, Dr. Joe Rowles and host Jeff Probst had to administer further tests on Kyle. It was thereby revealed that Kyle might have hurt his Achilles tendon and had to be taken out of the game despite his protests. The news of his injury severely dampened his team's morale, with some breaking down in tears. He was lifted into a boat by Q and Colby, and, in an emotional farewell, he pleaded with his teammates to win the game. 'Survivor' airs new episodes every Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.
