Inside 'Survivor' Season 50: Meet the tribes and their all-star members
Get ready to dive into the wilderness as 'Survivor 50: In the Hands of the Fans' is set to make its grand debut on Wednesday, February 25. Filmed in the Mamanuca Islands in Fiji, this milestone season features a record 24 returning players, including legends and fan favorites from past seasons. Let's take a closer look at the tribes and their members ahead of the premiere.
Cila Tribe
The Cila tribe, always wearing orange, features a mix of returning veterans and recent players, including Christian Hubicki, Cirie Fields, Emily Flippen, Jenna Lewis-Dougherty, Joe Hunter, Ozzy Lusth, Rick Devens, and Savannah Louie. One of the most notable dynamics is the history between Fields and Lusth. Turns out Fields played a key role in eliminating Lusth during Micronesia, and although they were on the same tribe again in Game Changers, they never faced significant voting conflicts.
Hubicki and Flippen, though never having played 'Survivor' together, have built a friendship through the online strategy game 'Blood on the Clocktower', giving them insight into reading deception that could benefit them in Season 50. Meanwhile, Devens, who initially feels isolated in the tribe, lands next to Louie, a fellow Georgian and former newscaster with whom he shares mutual friends, though they've never met, setting the stage for a natural connection on the island.
Kalo Tribe
The Kalo tribe, always wearing green, includes Charlie Davis, Chrissy Hofbeck, Benjamin 'Coach' Wade, Dee Valladares, Jonathan Young, Kamilla Karthigesu, Mike White, and Tiffany Ervin. This tribe notably doubles up on players from Survivor 46, with Davis and Ervin sharing a complicated history. While familiarity between Davis and Ervin could lead to an easy alliance on 'Survivor' 46. However, past betrayals, like Davis's role in targeting Ervin and her crucial vote against him, indicate that revenge could still play a key role.
Beyond that tension, most Kalo members have little prior connection, though the tribe is evenly split between 'old-school' and 'new era' players. Still, lines between these groups may blur, as Young shows interest in working with legendary figures, and Coach has links to Davis' allies, creating potential cross-generational dynamics.
Vatu Tribe
The Vatu tribe, always wearing pink, includes Angelina Keeley, Aubry Bracco, Colby Donaldson, Genevieve Mushaluk, Kyle Fraser, Q Burdette, Rizo Velovic, and Stephenie LaGrossa Kendrick. Donaldson and Kendrick, longtime allies from 'Heroes vs Villains', bring a historic connection that could influence early tribe dynamics as they try to rebuild their bond16 years later, while the rest of the tribe consists of newer players with fresh strategic potential.
In addition, another intriguing dynamic exists between Burdette and Bracco. Notably, during 'Survivor' 46, Burdette targeted Bracco based on a secondhand impression from another player, Moriah Gaynor, who named Bracco as her favorite. With both on the same tribe, it will be interesting to see if meeting Bracco in person changes Q's strategy.
