Gus has lived his entire life in a remote forest because of the dangers and chaos of the outside world. His father, determined to keep him safe from those who might harm him due to his unique appearance, teaches Gus survival skills.

However, driven by a deep yearning to understand his origins and find his mother, Gus decides to embark on a dangerous journey. Along his journey, he encounters new allies and enemies, each revealing more about the mysterious past.

In 'Sweet Tooth' Season 1, Gus meets Thomas 'Big Man' Jepperd (Nonso Anozie), a former professional athlete, during his journey.

Their encounter is initially marked by distrust and hesitation, as Jepperd is reluctant to get involved with Gus's mission. However, he soon becomes protector for the young hybrid.

He teaches Gus about the harsh realities of the outside world and helps him navigate the dangers posed by hostile humans and the remnants of the government seeking to capture hybrids amid the pandemic.

Their initial goal is to travel from Wyoming to Colorado, where Gus believes he will find clues about his mother's whereabouts. Along the way, they face numerous challenges.

Gus and Jepperd are joined by a teenager named Bear (Stefania LaVie Owen), who was previously the leader of the Animal Army, a group of teens dedicated to protecting hybrids. However, Bear is exiled from the group when she refuses to execute Jepperd.

In 'Sweet Tooth' Season 1, the H5G9 virus is depicted as a terrifying and devastating pandemic that spreads rapidly and causes widespread illness and death among those infected. The virus is a central element of the show's dystopian world.

The virus is shown to be highly contagious, with symptoms resembling those of the flu but far more severe. The spread of the virus is exacerbated by the emergence of hybrids, children born with animal-like traits who are believed by some to be the cause of the pandemic. This leads to the persecution and mistreatment of hybrids.

Meanwhile, Dr Aditya Singh (Adeel Akhtar) is determined to find a cure for the H5G9 virus. His quest leads him to conduct experiments on one of the hybrids.

'Sweet Tooth' Season 1 drops bombshell revelation about Birdie's fate

In the end, Birdie (Amy Seimetz), whom Gus had been chasing as his mother throughout the season, is shown to be alive.

In this scene, Birdie is depicted as having a phone call with Bear, who is eagerly waiting on the other end. However, Birdie is unaware that Gus is looking for her.

Gus's conception was unconventional; he was created as a test tube baby using unique microbes discovered in the ice of Alaska. Birdie and Pubba (Will Forte) aren't Gus's biological parents.

Season 1 ended with a hint that she may be in Alaska, possibly searching for a way to create a vaccine for the HG59 virus.
