LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Netflix is credited with being the first streaming platform since it transformed the way that the exclusive content from films and television series could be viewed in the comfort of your own home.

Since its debut on August 29, 1997, Netflix has created a diverse range of content that transcends languages and cultures, cementing its position as one of the world's largest streaming platforms.

However, not every show has been popular with viewers as some have fallen short, receiving harsh criticism. From contentious depictions to underwhelming adaptations, these series demonstrate that even a platform as large and resourceful as Netflix can occasionally fall short.

Here, we look at six Netflix shows that failed to wow Redditors.

The 100

Based on Kass Morgan's novel of the same name, the post-apocalyptic sci-fi series 'The 100' is set nearly a century after a nuclear disaster wipes out the majority of humanity. Despite the interesting premise, the show failed to resonate with Redditors, who poured their hearts out in a thread stating their reasons for not liking it.

A Reddit user added, "That show lost me at the fucking rope vine in episode one. it has to be one one the only shows ive ever watched out of spite. it was a show with such a cool idea that was just ruined by bad actors bad writers and a low budget."

Another shared their two cents and noted, "100 was pretty bad. Interesting premise but so much was wrong with the authenticity, too much of the violence and medical treatment etc was just plain wrong. Finished season 1 but no more."

Meanwhile, a user simply said, "Personnaly, I hated the 100."

13 Reasons why

Although it successfully addressed the mental health concerns of teenagers, the teen drama series '13 Reasons Why' has to be among the most contentious as the show's quality seemed to deteriorate in the ensuing seasons.

The plot revolves around Hannah Baker (Katherine Langford), a high school student who commits suicide, but not before recording a series of cassette tapes describing the thirteen reasons and people, she holds accountable for her decision.

A Reddit user initiated a thread, noting that '13 Reasons Why' got bad by the end.

A Redditor chimed in to express their views about the same and said, "I was shocked there was a season 2. Then there was a third. And now a fourth? How did they even get past the first season? Did they have more tapes or something just lying around?"

While another added, "It was bad and irresponsible from the first season. They crossed the line with showing the suicide scene, which they'd been warned by experts was dangerous - and they took 2 years to remove that scene from the episode. And somehow it still got worse from there with each season."

Labelling the last season as awful, another added "I’ve watched all four seasons, this last one was undeniably terrible. They went from Winston plotting to turn in the crew for covering up Bryce’s murder to police riots, to Justin having aids in like two episodes. I feel like they crammed in way too much crap in this season and it was overwhelming."

Resident Evil

Netflix's 'Resident Evil' is a live-action adaptation of the popular video game that alternates between two timelines: one in 2022, where teenage sisters Jade (Ella Balinska) and Billie Wesker (Adeline Rudolph) discover dark secrets in the corporate city of New Raccoon City, and another in 2036, where an adult Jade struggles to survive in a zombie-infested world.

While the series was highly anticipated, it did not pass the litmus test of the Redditors, who lambasted the show in a thread started by a user.

A user remarked, "I got bored and switched it off after half way through 2nd episode. Was going to give it another but honestly could not care less about a single character in it."

Meanwhile, another added, "It's god awful. i got through one and a half episodes, fell asleep, woke up a few episodes later and it put me right back to sleep. nothing does that to me except baseball and golf. honestly. impressively boring."

Bashing the main leads another said, "The main character is AWFUL. Especially as a teenager, no one is THAT unreasonable as a teenager. I've never disliked a character more."

The Watcher

Based on 'The Haunting of a Dream House' by Reeves Wiedeman, the mystery thriller series delves into the unnerving experiences of the Brannock family, who move into their dream home in a picturesque Westfield, New Jersey, suburb, only to be dogged by a string of menacing letters from a stalker known as 'The Watcher'.

As the harassment worsens, the Brannocks become increasingly paranoid, blaming their neighbors and even themselves.

While the show's premise seems intriguing, it does not provide the intended chills to viewers, as claimed by a Reddit thread claiming the show is the worst ever made.

A Redditor said, "It could have been so much better! The underground tunnel thing should have been a huge part of this. I've never seen something fizzle out so bad."

Meanwhile, another crticized the show and remarked, "I had high hopes after watching the preview but after watching all the episodes I wish I could get that time back. That series was a complete waste of time and I regret ever watching it."

Another user bashed the show and commented, "I just watched 4 episodes in a row and I just gave up. The decisions and thought processes of these characters just pisses me off. Like okay there are also characters making bad decisions in good shows but at least it make sense in a way. Also I think it’s just exhausting trying soooo hard to make everyone look like the bad guy."

Big Mouth

The uncomfortable and perplexing aspects of adolescence are explored in the adult animated series 'Big Mouth'.

Created by Nick Kroll, Andrew Goldberg, Mark Levin, and Jennifer Flackett, the show delves into the trials and tribulations of puberty through the eyes of a group of teenagers and was touted to be the next big thing in the adult animation genre, but it falls short of expectations, with many criticizing the show's animation style.

The same opinion was expressed in a thread by a Reddit user who criticized the show for its unlikable characters and its awful animation style.

A user commented, "Tried Big Mouth and hated it. I found most of the characters and the animation style to be crap."

Another Redditor said, "Big mouth. Still not sure how that got a pass from anyone".

Disjointed

The creative brainchild of David Javerbaum and Chuck Lorre, the sitcom centers around Ruth Whitefeather Feldman (Kathy Bates), a fervent marijuana activist who starts a cannabis shop named Ruth's Alternative Caring.

As intriguing as the show's idea seems, it even failed to impress hardcore marijuana smokers, who expressed their dissatisfaction with the show on a Reddit thread.

A user stated, "I'm a total pot head and I found myself thinking it was possibly the worst show ever written. I didn't even make it through the 1st episode."

Another Redditor said, "Its like a show about stoners written by someone who has never smoked weed."

Meanwhile, another thrashed the laugh track and noted, "The laugh track is just the worst. Who thought that was a good idea. If they filmed this like The Office or Park and Rec, it would have instantly made it better."
