Created by Dan Erickson and produced by Ben Stiller, the dystopian science fiction universe of 'Severance' Season 1 features a cult-like Lumon Corporation that divides employees' memories and personalities into two: an innie for the workplace and an outie for the outside world, with neither having access to the other's experiences. The story of 'Severance' Season 1 began with the four severed innies of the Macro-Data Refinement department becoming more inquisitive and critical of the system they are a part of. In the teaser, Helly can be seen getting off a train in a subway, briefly vanishing from the shot following a camera glitch, all while the 'Severance' theme song is playing as the train door alarm chimes. This is significant since not much else about Helly's life as an outie has been made public.
