Chris Pratt drops teases new characters for 'The Super Mario Galaxy Movie' and here's why we're excited
We already know ‘The Super Mario Galaxy Movie’ is stacking its cast with characters fans have been begging to see on the big screen, thanks to that sequel trailer that dropped late last year. But according to Mario himself, or at least the guy voicing him, there’s way more hiding behind the warp stars. Chris Pratt, who returns as the voice of Mario, has confirmed that the movie still has surprises tucked away, and no, they’re not ready to be named just yet. While speaking to GamesRadar+, Pratt was asked whether there were any new faces he was personally excited for audiences to discover once the movie finally rolls out.
His answer was quick and careful, “Oh, yes, there are. I'm not allowed to say what they are, but yes, there are some really incredible… Well, I think some of them have been released in the trailer – Rosalina, Bowser Jr. – and then there's even a couple more that are not in the trailer that people should be excited to see.” Pratt did point out that a few additions have already been teased publicly. The trailer confirmed that Brie Larson will voice Princess Rosalina. Bowser Jr. also made his debut, with Benny Safdie stepping into the role of the Fire Kingdom’s heir.
Still, Pratt made it clear that those reveals are not the whole picture. According to him, there are at least a couple more familiar figures who didn’t make it into the trailer at all. No hints. No sly name drops. Just the promise that longtime fans will recognize them and probably cheer when they finally appear. The control is impressive. Or cruel. Depends on who you ask. The current cast list already reads like a victory lap for animated blockbusters. Charlie Day is back as Luigi, Anya Taylor-Joy returns as Princess Peach, and Jack Black once again voices Bowser.
With Rosalina and Bowser Jr. now officially in play, the film's world feels more closely connected to the games that inspired it. And that’s before whatever else Nintendo is quietly holding back. Outside of Mushroom Kingdom talk, Pratt’s conversation with the outlet was actually about his recently released film ‘Mercy’. The movie couldn’t be further from colorful pipes and bouncing Goombas. In the sci-fi action thriller, Pratt plays a detective accused of murdering his wife, with just 90 minutes to prove his innocence. If he fails, he’s executed.
The judge overseeing his fate isn’t human either, but an artificial intelligence voiced by Rebecca Ferguson. Lighthearted this is not. ‘Mercy’ arrived in theaters on January 23, kicking off what looks to be a hectic year for the actor. Not long after, Mario returns on April 1, when ‘The Super Mario Galaxy Movie’ lands in cinemas, as per The Sunday Guardian. By then, fans will finally know which mystery characters Pratt has been so carefully dodging questions about.
