LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Wes Anderson is an auteur whose movies are on top of most critics' lists. With a career spanning over three decades, Anderson has brought to life some of America’s, if not the world’s, most unique cinematic projects. Despite portraying different worlds in his films, they all have the signature Wes Anderson 'touch' of the whimsy, especially in his set designs. With his fast-paced comedies with melancholic elements, Anderson has established his niche with themes like dysfunctional family relationships, sibling rivalry, adultery, and unusual friendships. His latest offering ‘Asteroid City’ premiered at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival to a thunderous six-minute applause.

‘Asteroid City’ is a science fiction romantic comedy flick from Anderson who has made his first foray into the realm of sci-fi. As expected, the film is laden with beautiful color palettes, symmetrical compositions, and a world within a world that only Anderson can help us comprehend. You may think that Anderson will take some time off after delivering another classic but the auteur is soon returning with another adventure comedy flick named ‘The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar’ for Netflix. And yes, he has a huge ensemble cast with him again.

Benedict Cumberbatch to play Henry Sugar

‘The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar’ is based on the eponymous short story contained in the 1977 collection ‘The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar and Six More’ by Roald Dahl. This is Anderson’s second adaptation of Dahl’s work with the earlier one being, 'Mr. Fantastic Fox' back in 2009. Benedict Cumberbatch, the legendary actor in Marvel’s ‘Doctor Strange’ franchise and ‘Sherlock Holmes’ for BBC, is set to play the titular role of Henry Sugar. Assisting Benedict in his duties are Ralph Fiennes, Dev Patel, Richard Ayoade, Rupert Friend, and Sir Ben Kingsley.  The film is set to be divided into three specific chapters with Henry Sugar serving as a connecting thread through each one.

‘The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar’ follows Henry who can see through objects and predict the future with the help of a book he stole. Anderson is a massive fan of Roald Dahl’s stories and given his bizarre directorial style and Netflix's money, the world is in luck. Expect another masterpiece from the American director.

When will ‘The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar’ release on Netflix?

‘The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar’ was confirmed by Netflix back in January 2022 and filming began later that month. For now, no release date has been fixed by the streaming giant but the film is expected to be out on Netflix in the latter half of 2023.
