‘The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar’ is based on the eponymous short story contained in the 1977 collection ‘The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar and Six More’ by Roald Dahl. This is Anderson’s second adaptation of Dahl’s work with the earlier one being, 'Mr. Fantastic Fox' back in 2009. Benedict Cumberbatch, the legendary actor in Marvel’s ‘Doctor Strange’ franchise and ‘Sherlock Holmes’ for BBC, is set to play the titular role of Henry Sugar. Assisting Benedict in his duties are Ralph Fiennes, Dev Patel, Richard Ayoade, Rupert Friend, and Sir Ben Kingsley. The film is set to be divided into three specific chapters with Henry Sugar serving as a connecting thread through each one.
‘The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar’ follows Henry who can see through objects and predict the future with the help of a book he stole. ‘The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar’ was confirmed by Netflix back in January 2022 and filming began later that month. For now, no release date has been fixed by the streaming giant but the film is expected to be out on Netflix in the latter half of 2023.
