Surrounded by the modern world but distanced by 55 acres of farmland, that is the Plath family for you. TLC's new series, 'Welcome to Plathville' follows the life of the Plath family that consists of Kim and Barry and their nine children, ages 6 to 21.

The Plath children have grown playing in the field, running barefoot, catching bugs together, and have found various ways to entertain themselves without the influence of social media or the outside world. Wrapped in their own cocoon, the Plath family children have also never had a soda, don’t know who Spider-Man or Tom Brady is and have never watched TV. They tend to live their life following the rules that have been laid out by their parents, Kim and Barry who decided to construct a small world of their own in the hopes of keeping their children away from the chaos that exists in the modern world.

They hoped to instill their children with traditional values, especially regarding hard work, charitable morals, and family roles. However, things were shaken up in the family when the oldest Plath son, Ethan tied the knot with Olivia. Unlike the Plath family, Oliva was aware of the joys that modern-day technology and the outside world had to offer.

Unlike the traditional values, Olivia settled on rules that allowed consumption of sugar, alcohol, television, and social media. Her free-spirit and adventurous spirit have allowed Ethan to explore the world and see it from a different perspective. However, this newfound freedom that Ethan has attained has other Plath children wondering if they were missing out on a lot of things because of the rules imposed in their family.

Things become more chaotic in the family when 18-year-old Micah and  17-year-old Moriah start spending a lot of time with Olivia and Ethan. Moriah, who often feels like an outcast in the family, found a friend in Olivia as she helped her widen her horizon and introduced her to things she had never tried before.

Kim and Barry are finding it hard to find a balance in their family with Micah and Moriah craving for freedom. The show explores how the Plath family comes to terms with the changing dynamics of their family and how they try to keep the young ones away from being influenced. But if they will succeed or not, only the coming season of the show can tell.

The show premieres on TLC on November 5.
