'Watchmen': Showrunner Damon Lindelof doesn't want to renew HBO show for Season 2, here's why it's a good thing
Most fans of the original 'Watchmen' graphic novel by Alan Moore weren't very comfortable with the idea of the book being adapted into a TV show. But at the end of Season 1, not only has HBO's 'Watchmen' satisfied fans but also got them wondering if there is more to come.
Now the fans are busy debating whether the show will get a Season 2 or not, but the chances of that happening are quite slim. For one thing, Damon Lindelof has made it clear that he has already completed his vision with Season 1.
Lindelof's treatment of the 'Watchmen' world is one of the main reasons why we love the show so much so him not being in charge would seriously diminish the appeal of a second season but that's not the only reason why a 'Watchmen' Season 2 might not be a good idea.
While Season 1 does have an open ending, the cliffhanger is far too massive to diffuse for the sake of another season. As it stands, the show has already ended in the best possible way and to push the story any further would be a huge disservice to Lindelof's work.
From the point of view of the narrative itself, there are still stories that could be told in Season 2, including a possible storyline about Angela Abar (Regina King) coming to terms with the loss of her humanity after gaining Dr Manhattan's powers. However, those are all stories that could very easily stand on their own without being an extension of the show as it is right now.
Ultimately, what it all boils down to is just one question: Does the show need another season? And the answer, considering how amazing the show already is, has to be a no.
'Watchmen' Season 1 Episode 9 'See How They Fly' aired on HBO on December 15.
