From 1993 to 2001, Chuck Norris played Cordell Walker in the American action crime television series ‘Walker, Texas Ranger’. The CBS show was inspired by the film ‘Lone Wolf McQuade’, which also starred Norris. Thanks to The CW, we will see a reboot of the show. And while it may no longer star Norris, it will star an actor who is well-loved. Here’s all you need to know about the new show, called ‘Walker’.

Release date

‘Walker’ Season 1 is scheduled to premiere on January 21, 2021, only on The CW.

Plot

The old show, ‘Walker, Texas Ranger’ followed Sergeant Cordell Walker, a Dallas–Fort Worth-based member of the Texas Rangers, a state-level bureau of investigation, who was raised by his paternal uncle, a Native American named Ray Firewalker. Walker, prior to joining the Rangers, served in the Marines' elite recon unit during the Vietnam War. Both he and Uncle Ray shared the values characteristic of Wild West sheriffs. The reboot is likely to go in a different direction. More so in terms of the martial arts that Norris employed in the original series, among other elements.

As per IMDb, the synopsis for ‘Walker’ Season 1 is: “A widowed father returns to Austin after two years, attempting to reconnect with his children, navigate clashes with his family, and find common ground with his new partner, while growing increasingly suspicious of his wife's death.”

Trailer

The official trailer for ‘Walker’ promises a show following the trope of a pained macho protagonist delivering justice while trying to reconcile with his personal loss. This is, of course, a trope the world has seen (and somewhat rejected) too many times now. Nevertheless, something about a Spaghetti Western-ish setting always has currency and this darker take on the Chuck Norris classic seems to be hitting a few chords just right.
