Josh Kimbowa, known popularly by his stage name UG skywalkin is one of the contestants representing his hometown of Indianapolis on NBC's 'American Song Contest'.

UG knew early on that music was his calling and so left his university life to follow his passion in building the career of his dreams. A decade later, he's still hustling harder than ever to make it big in the industry. That's what passion is about, right? Most of the genres UG’s music comes under are that of hip hop, rhythm and blues, as well as Afropop. It sure looks like he's bringing something completely different yet unique to the table. Hosted by Snoop Dogg and Kelly Clarkson, the reality singing competition will also see stars like AleXa, Michael Bolton, and Kelsey Lamb, among others.

Who is UG skywalkin?

UG, born and raised in Kampala, East Africa, made the move from Uganda to America at just 8 years of age, along with his parents. Even at that age, he was not only creative but had a strong knack for athletics. He had the opportunity to tap into his talent at Center Grove High School and went on to earn a football scholarship from the University of Indianapolis.

Music has been a big part of UG’s family, his father being a musician himself. On the other hand, his mother was part of the country’s royal family. The couple moved to Indiana as missionaries. Right after UG dropped out of college, he had his family to motivate him in his musical endeavors. UG is most popularly known for electrifying stage shows, as well as his innate ability to thrive off of the audiences’ energy. Having said that, UG feels humbled and is grateful for being the official representative for the Hoosier State.

Despite the name he has created for himself and the massive fan following, UG has not once lost touch with his humble beginnings and is very much grounded in his roots. He strongly believes that all the contestants on the show are unique in their own way, with each artist having their own strengths.

UG's 2021 music video, called 'Crush', has a rather subtle yet evident Indiana flavor. It is directed by Jake Huber and produced by Joey French. The man has toured extensively for years together and has also performed for a number of major hip-hop artists, like Wiz Khalifa and 2 Chainz. UG believes that his experiences have prepared him for this soon-to-be life-changing moment. One of his songs is called, 'Love in My City'; the piece is a stellar amalgamation of both African beats as well as hip hop music.

UG's first encounter with Eurovision was a chance one. He came across a video on YouTube, and the concept of performing one's original songs was what caught his eye. If he's not creating music, you'll find this artist flipping through home renovation shows and the Discovery channel as well.

As the man gained more proficiency and began duly following his path to being a musician in a much more serious manner, the backend team of 'The Voice' eventually got in touch with him to have him audition on their show. Unfortunately, he didn't go ahead to pursue that path but the network he built along the way with the members associated with 'The Voice' most definitely played a vital role in him being asked to be one of the talented artists on 'American Song Contest'.

UG’s music gained immense popularity following primarily through online streaming services. He also thinks that the competition will be a change of pace since he'll be required to perform live for an audience listening to his original music for the very first time. Aside from the fact that this in itself is a nail-biting experience, it's also one to be excited and exhilarated about.

Catch UG skywalkin performing on the premiere of 'American Song Contest'. The show will air on March 21, 2022, at 7 pm ET, only on NBC.
