NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: ‘Today’ host Craig Melvin, who was absent from the morning show for a long time, has finally returned to the show and revealed the real reason behind his absence.

Although Craig Melvin’s wife Lindsay Czarniak earlier shared pics on her Instagram revealing Melvin’s whereabouts, he officially confirmed the news on Tuesday’s ‘Today’ episode. Lindsay posted photos and videos of the family watching the sunset and sunrise on the beach and it appeared they were enjoying their long getaway at Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. Melvin admitted that he was vacationing with his family, including his wife, younger brother, older brother, and all the children.

Craig Melvin is finally back on ‘Today’

Melvin returned to ‘Today’ after being away for a while. However, Sheinelle Jones and Dylan Dreyer were still absent from the show, and Vicky Nguyen filled in as a guest anchor. During his first appearance back, Melvin shared that he had been on a fun-filled vacation with his family, enjoying time at the beach, and pool, and playing golf with his father. Melvin told Roker, “It’s good to be back.” “We went down last week, me, my younger brother, and my older brothers and all their kids went on vacation, beach, pool, beach, pool,” Melvin said.

His wife Lindsay reportedly organized a family tennis outing, making the vacation an enjoyable and memorable experience despite the scorching 95-degree weather. He said, “It was great, but it was like 95 degrees”. Meanwhile, Al Roker warmly welcomed Melvin back to the show.

Today’s missing hosts

Before Melvin's return, both he and Dreyer had been absent from the show. On Monday, fill-in host Savannah Sellers joined Roker and Jones on the ‘Today 3rd Hour’, while Melvin usually joins Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb about 30 minutes into the regular program. Typically, Roker, Sheinelle, Melvin, and Dylan sit behind the hosts' desk during the ‘Today 3rd Hour’ but on Monday, Dylan and Melvin were still absent from the broadcast. Instead, Savannah Sellers, a correspondent for NBC News and MSNBC, took the seat alongside Roker and Sheinelle. Various individuals, including Jill Martin, Maria Shriver, and Keir Simmons, have been stepping in as temporary replacements for the absent hosts. As of the given information, it remains unclear when Dylan will be back from her vacation to return to the morning show.
