'Titans' season 2 trailer shows Teagan Croft’s Rachel Roth transform into Raven, finally coming into her own as a hero

The Titans are back! Minka Kelly, who plays Dawn Granger aka Dove on the series, shared a trailer for 'Titans' Season 2 on her Instagram page and oh boy, does it have a lot to unpack. The trailer gives fans our first look at some of the new characters joining the cast like Superboy (Josh Orpin) and Aqualad (Drew Van Acker) as well as some old ones like Dick Grayson aka Robin (Brenton Thwaites) and Donna Troy (Conor Leslie).

The most interesting thing the trailer teases, however, is a brand new, comics-accurate look for Teagan Croft’s Rachel Roth aka Raven. The first season of ‘Titans’ didn’t go too heavy on the superhero suits. Except for Robin, Hawk (Alan Ritchson) and Dove, our young heroes mostly wore normal clothing like jeans and shirts.

The new Titans are a proper superhero team, complete with a swanky new base and some really cool outfits. Season 2 will see Rachel appear wearing her classic black robes from the comics and she’s even got the red gem at the center her forehead that completes her iconic look.

The trailer hints that the new season might be picking up a substantial amount of time after the events of the first. This is a bit surprising since season 1 ended with Raven’s demonic father Trigon (Seamus Dever) arriving on Earth and bringing Robin under his control.

The time-jump suggests that the series will either show the heroes taking down Trigon right at the beginning of the season or explain the demon’s defeat through flashbacks. For all we know, the manner of Trigon’s defeat might have something to do with Raven’s changed appearance.

It’s not just the new look though. Rachel was extremely powerful in season 1 but her age and inexperience severely limited her control over her abilities. She was quite understandably terrified of her demonic heritage, which caused her to see her dark side manifest itself as a bad-mouthed version of herself with chalk-white skin and black demonic eyes.

The new Raven is more in control and quite a bit more self-composed than she was in the last season. ‘Titans’ season 2 looks like it could be bringing us a Raven who is much closer to her comic book version. This is still the same girl we (and Ryan Potter’s Beast Boy) fell in love with in the first season, as evidenced by her conversation with Dick Grayson.

But her new control over her abilities might just give the Titans a much-needed edge against the seasoned villain who also makes his first appearance in the trailer: DC’s premiere mercenary, Deathstroke the Terminator (Esai Morales).

‘Titans’ season 2 will be available for streaming on DC Universe starting September 6.
