'Thor: Love and Thunder': Fans call MCU's new film a thunderous 'disappointment'

Even though fans are praising the performances, the movie doesn't seem to strike to connect with the viewers

Marvel’s latest addition to its cinematic universe, ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’, has been creating a lot of buzz since it was announced. I mean, it doesn’t come as a shock that it was one of the most highly-anticipated movies of the year and the success of ‘Ragnarok’ made people even more excited for the movie. With the return of Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster as Thor in the action flick, the excitement surrounding the film increased to a whole new level. The trailers assured fans that they are in for an enthralling ride once again and showcased how the film was going to be a perfect mix of superhero action and simple, light-hearted moments.

However, it seems the movie has failed to live up to the hype and fans are not feeling as good as they should have about MCU’s latest film. ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ sees the mighty superhero enjoying his retirement. However, his retirement is interrupted by an evil force named Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), a galactic killer who seeks the extinction of the gods. The God of Thunder decides to take help from King Valkyrie, Korg, and his ex-lover Jane Foster, who surprisingly wields his hammer. Together, they embark on a journey to face Gorr and know why he wants to kill every single god. Although the premise of the movie looks really intriguing, it couldn’t really manage to nab the audience’s imagination. Even though fans praised Christian Bale’s menacing performance as Gorr, they were left disappointed with the silly script and ridiculous jokes.

One of the fans wrote, “I’m really sorry but I’m not impressed with ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’.” Another social media user wrote, “Still can’t believe they made such a poor film with such stellar cast. Bale deserved a far better MCU film. MCU standards are surely going down.” Meanwhile, one of the fans said, “Marvel, please name the movie ‘Thor: Joke and Laughter’. Such a disappointment.”

“Yet another #Thor movie. Yet another loss for Thor,” said another user.
“#ThorLoveandThunder almost drowns in a sea of silliness. Always believed this is what Marvel wanted to avoid; Campy superhero movies. Well, #Thor leans into it - hard! If not for a thematically strong 3rd act, the hammer would’ve dropped leaving nothing but Thor's foot,” wrote another social media user.

Another user noted, “#ThorLoveandThunder is SO DISAPPOINTING. @TaikaWaititi Why?” Another fan wrote, "#ThorLoveandThunder I laughed a lot, but because I like parodies, that's a parody no different than Scary Movie. Waititi took 2 of the most serious, violent, and well-written Thor comics and made a ‘Minions’ movie with them.”
“MARVEL STOP WASTING HIGH POTENTIAL CHARACTERS !!!!!” another fan tweeted.

The reactions mentioned above suggest that fans are not happy with the MCU’s latest entrant and feel that Marvel’s winning formula is not wielding the same magic that it used to. Even though the critics' reactions are mixed, the film is touted to have a thunderous opening at the box office and might break some records.
