'This is Us' Season 4 Episode 9: Teen Kate's relationship with Marc keeps fans tense while Rebecca's condition worsens

Clearly, something terrible happened between the two of them, and from what little we saw in 'Sorry', Marc is controlling and seems to think he can dictate what Kate does.

'This is Us' continues to make us weep with each passing episode and Season 4 Episode 8 titled 'Sorry' was no different. In the episode, we saw Rebecca (Mandy Moore) getting defensive and angry with Randall (Sterling K Brown) for worrying about her wellbeing, while Nicky (Griffin Dunne) and Kevin (Justin Hartley) break ground on some uncle-nephew bonding. The episode also saw Beth (Susan Kelechi Watson) and Deja (Lyric Ross) having an honest conversation about the latter's birth mother being a part of their lives, and yet another glimpse of teenage Kate's (Hannah Zeile) relationship with her seemingly problematic older boyfriend Marc (Austin Abrams). 

Although all these storylines were heart-tuggers it is watching the unshakable mother-son duo, R&R fighting that made us the saddest. It is clear that Rebecca is not herself anymore, and she is refusing to admit it - understandably so. She is not ready to accept that she cannot rely on her own mind anymore, and as fans had predicted in the Season 3 finale, she seems to be affected by dementia or Alzheimers. 

In the upcoming Season 4 Episode 9 of 'This is Us', which also happens to mark the mid-season finale of the show, we will see Rebecca finding it even more difficult to have her wits about her. In the trailer, she is seen in the middle of a road looking confused as to where she is and where she is supposed to go. This seems to be the beginning of the end for her, and 'This is Us' is certainly gearing us up for a few tear-inducing episodes. 



 

Meanwhile, another storyline that has been bothering us for a while is that of teenage Kate and Marc. In the final seconds of the episode that aired on October 22, we saw a disturbing exchange between adult Kate (Chrissy Metz) and Rebecca after seeing a photo of Kate and Marc together, which went a little like, “I wanted to believe so badly that you kids were happy, I didn’t see what was happening.” “I didn’t see it either.”

Most fans seem to think, and we agree, that Marc may have abused her, and that is a storyline we are bracing ourselves for. Hopefully, we will get to see a bit more of what happened between them in the upcoming Season 4 Episode 9 of 'This is Us', titled 'So Long, Marianne', which it airs on Tuesday, November 19.
