'This is Us' Season 4 Episode 3: Randall has a tough decision to make and Kate finally gets to see Toby's ripped body

From the trailers leading up to 'Unhinged', we know that the title pertains to Randall's political image, and he seems to have no qualms about it

'This is Us' has expanded its universe in the ongoing Season 4 in ways we had never imagined, but our focus still remains on The Big Three. The upcoming Season 4 Episode 3, 'Unhinged', is premiering on Tuesday, October 8 night, and we believe it is going to focus heavily on Randall's (Sterling K Brown) story.

Fans of the show are familiar with how the past and the present of specific characters are often melded together to help us better understand their stories. We have seen it many times over - with Jack (Milo Ventimiglia), Rebecca (Mandy Moore), Randall, Kevin (Justin Hartley), Kate (Chrissy Metz), Beth (Susan Kelechi Watson), and even William (Ron Cephas Jones). We have come to expect this over the years, and even look forward to it, and 'Unhinged' is going to use this compelling storytelling conceit to tell us Randall's story.

From the trailers leading up to 'Unhinged', we know that the title pertains to Randall's political image, and he seems to have no qualms about it. The councilman is focused on progress and if being unhinged is what gets him there, so be it, but there is going to be a situation where he needs to make a tough decision and he struggles with it. It definitely seems like we will be taken back to his younger self to explore a similar situation in the past, and from the trailer, it seems like young Randall's (Lonnie Chavis) confusion involves a new black teacher at his school.

Meanwhile, his sister is coping with being a new mom and being a wife to a new husband. Kate seems to think that everything is going great and that she is dealing well with the news about baby Jack potentially being blind all his life, but her husband Toby (Chris Sullivan) seems to think otherwise.

While he hasn't expressed it to her yet, we know that he is worried about her overeating habits returning because of the stress, and we expect it to be addressed in 'Unhinged'.

Toby's stress is manifested in ways that haven't been explored before - working out. Towards the end of the last episode, we saw that he is training in cross-fit and he is going to show off that body in front of Kate for the first time.

We know that she is going to be shocked by this, but will his being fit make her feel insecure, or angry, or happy? It remains to be seen. In the past, however, we have seen Kate reacting badly to Toby losing weight quickly while she was struggling with it. With her changing eating habits and stress of being a new mother, we wonder how that reaction is going to change this time around.

Watch 'Unhinged' which airs on Tuesday, October 8, to find out.
