After years of putting her life on hold for the people she loves, Beth Pearson (Susan Kelechi Watson) finally has her moment to shine, and yet she is forced to focus on meaningless fights over the most important night in her professional life.

From the previous episodes of NBC's 'This is Us', we know that Beth's mom Carol (Phylicia Rashad) ran a tight ship and that she did not like being challenged about how she does things. Beth also happened to marry someone who was equally headstrong, but thankfully, Randall (Sterling K Brown) isn't as intimidating and uses his charm and suavity to convince his wife to do things his way.

In the upcoming Season 4 Episode 4 of 'This is Us', we will see these two strong personalities come head-to-head and from the looks of it, this is the culmination of years of frustration, at least on Randall's part. 'Flip a Coin' will focus on Beth and Randall's relationship and how their respective mothers impacted it. As we know, Rebecca (Mandy Moore) has always been supportive of all of Randall's decisions, but in the flashback from their college days, we see that Carol was not all that approving of their relationship.

In a scene, we see her telling Beth that it may be for good that her relationship with Randall would not amount to anything more than a couple of dates. Knowing Carol, she would not have tried to hide her displeasure from Randall either, and our guess is that the years of trying to win her approval and not getting it has made him bitter and angry. Unfortunately for Beth, all this bitterness and frustration come pouring out on the night of the inauguration of her dance school.

Beth has let her career take a backseat to raise her children, even found a way to let her dreams thrive while Randall followed his heart and joined politics even though she was dead against it for a while, and now when it was finally her turn to shine, Randall seems unable to see that. We truly hope Carol and Randall find common ground in their love for Beth and put their differences aside in the upcoming Season 4 Episode 4 of 'This is Us', which will air on Tuesday, October 15 night, on NBC.
