'The World According To Jeff Goldblum' Episode 1 gets trippy on sneaker facts but stumbles with everything else Goldblum offers

The web series takes you on a 30-minute ride through how Goldblum looks at expensive sneakers. As far as sneaker trivia is concerned, it is on point, but overall the episode fails to generate the excitement that it promised in the trailer

Ever heard of a 'Sneaker Con'? Neither have we! So, when Jeff Goldblum opens his brand new series promising to take you to unique places, you can expect events or things like these.

Episode 1 of 'The World According To Jeff Goldblum' is like watching Goldblum in his most Goldblum-like element, drawing all the attention to himself. And everything that continues around him, and is on camera, can be comfortably overlooked.

Why? Because, either the parallel content doesn't seem impactful enough, or Goldblum is truly screen-consuming! We would rather go with the first option.

Each episode is dedicated to each product — one of the few positives of the show. The first episode takes you through the most expensive sneakers, the history, and science behind its evolution and so on.

But as you gradually move into the details about sneakers, Goldblum's personal history of buying or wearing sneakers, visiting Adidas' headquarters, etc. makes it feel almost like 'Bizzare Foods with Andrew Zimmermann' meets 'How It's Made'.

It starts with Goldblum visiting a Sneaker Convention and turns into an unboxing sneakers video, quite like the ones dominating YouTube today. Of course, we cannot deny the creativity of the camerawork and the graphic integration between cuts and scenes, which makes it interesting and balances the blandness.

One cannot also deny the interesting facts about the products that we see, including the extensive consumer psychometric evaluation done by Adidas for every new product. If at all, that remains the highlight of the episode.

However, it will also be true to say that such information (in video or text) would be easily available on YouTube or geeky blogs as well.

In short, quite contrary to the high hopes that we had held about this series, 'The World According To Jeff Goldblum' is nothing revolutionary.

Except for Goldblum's star power and effusive persona, the content of the show (at least the first episode) tastes bland. However, if you are looking for a show to tune in to at dinner time, then this might just be one of them.

Beyond that, the show has nothing that would make it binge-worthy! 'The World According to Jeff Goldblum' is currently available on Disney+.
