'Doc' finally renewed for Season 3 with massive episode order ahead of Season 2 finale
Deadline has reported that Westside Hospital is getting a new lease on life as Fox has renewed the medical drama series 'Doc' for Season 3. What's more? It has landed a rare 22-episode order, demonstrating Fox's confidence in the series, which is based on the Italian title 'Doc – Nelle tue mani.' It is developed for U.S. audiences by Barbie Kligman, who serves as the co-showrunner alongside Hank Steinberg. Inspired by true events, 'Doc' centers on the brilliant physician Dr. Amy Larsen, who is forced to rebuild her life and medical career following a car crash that wiped out her memory of the last eight years of her life.
Michael Thorn, President of Fox Television Network, praised the show's strong ratings in his official statement after the Season 3 renewal. "Doc has become a true breakout for Fox, delivering our largest scripted multi-platform audience of the season and building remarkable momentum across Fox, Hulu, Netflix, and internationally — earning it another 22-episode order. That success is a testament to the exceptional creative leadership of Hank Steinberg and Barbie Kligman, our terrific partners at Sony, and the talented Molly Parker, whose deeply nuanced performance gives the series its soul," he said, as per the publication.
'Doc' premiered on Fox with a 10-episode season on January 7, 2025, and, following its success, was given a 22-episode Season 2 order, which premiered on September 14, 2025. The second season, which will air its finale on April 14, continues to be Fox's most-watched program, averaging 7.4 million viewers. So, it's no surprise that 'Doc,' the network's top-rated show, landed a 22-episode series order for the second consecutive year. While a 22-episode season order used to be a standard practice for broadcast shows earlier, it has become a rarity today. In recent years, studios have cut down the episode count to 18 or fewer per season, mainly for cost-saving reasons.
Fox has not made any official cast announcements yet, but most of the series regulars are expected to return for 'Doc' Season 3, including Molly Parker as Dr. Amy Larsen, Omar Metwally as Dr. Michael Hamda, Jon-Michael Ecker as Dr. Jake Heller, and Charlotte Fountain-Jardim as Katie Hamda. Furthermore, Amirah Vann should also be back as Dr. Gina Walker, alongside Anya Banerjee as Dr. Sonya Maitra, Patrick Walker as Dr. TJ Coleman, and Claire Armstrong as Nurse Julie. However, it's unclear whether Scott Wolf will reprise his role as Dr. Richard Miller after his reduced role in Season 2. Also, it is yet to be seen if Felicity Huffman, who joined the show's second season as the hospital's new Chief of Internal Medicine, Dr. Joan Ridley, will continue her story arc in the next season. Watch the latest episodes of 'Doc' Season 2 on Tuesdays at 9 p.m. on Fox or stream the next day on Hulu.
