The platform is set to expand its catalog with the release of the upcoming movie ‘The Weekend Away’. Based on the novel of the same name by Sarah Alderson, the movie revolves around two friends who come to Portugal for a vacation.

However, the vacation turns into a nightmare for Beth (Leighton Meester) when she finds her friend Kate (Christina Wolfe) missing. Her friend vanishes and Kate is now being accused of killing her. In order to prove that she’s innocent, she embarks on a journey to find out what happened. However, each clue yields another unsettling deception.

The upcoming movie seems to be another worthy addition to Netflix’s catalog that already has thriller movies like ‘The Guilty’, ‘Bird Box’, and ‘The Woman in the Window’. It will be interesting to see if ‘The Weekend Away’ gets the reception like the aforementioned titles.

When does ‘The Weekend Away’ release and where can you watch it

‘The Weekend Away’ will be premiering exclusively on Netflix on Thursday, February 3. According to the Netflix Press Site, the movie will be available for streaming at 3:01 am EST. Viewers can download the Netflix app from Google’s Play Store and Apple’s App Store to watch their favorite projects.

What is ‘The Weekend Away’ all about?

The official synopsis reads, “Two best friends, Kate and Beth who have overcome personal setbacks and no matter what life throws at them, they always look forward to their annual weekend way. This year they are on a trip to Lisbon, and everything is perfect until Beth wakes up to find Kate missing. With only a fuzzy memory of the previous night and the police not helping, her frantic search uncovers devastating secrets closer to home.”

Who stars in the upcoming Netflix movie?

‘Gossip girl’ alum Leighton Meester plays the role of Beth in the movie and Christina Wolfe will be seen portraying the character of Kate.

Meester needs no introduction and took the world by storm after playing Blair Waldorf in ‘Gossip Girl’. She garnered a lot of success with her role on the show and became a superstar. Since then, she has been a part of several high-profile projects such as ‘Date Night’, ‘The Roommate’, ‘The Judge’, ‘24’, ‘Veronica Mars’, and ‘Single Parents’.



 

She was recently seen in a recurring role in the Hulu series ‘How I Met Your Father’. 

Other actors to feature in the movie include Ziad Bakri as Zain and Luke Norris as Rob.

The upcoming movie is based on the novel written by Sarah Alderson and is being helmed by Kim Farrant. The filmmaker is known for directing the 2016 movie ‘Strangerland’ starring Nicole Kidman and Hugo Weaving in pivotal roles.

Charlie Morrison, Ben Pugh, and Erica Steinberg are the producers of the movie while Kari Hatfield serves as an executive producer on the movie.
