'The Voice' Season 24: Gwen Stefani mocks Niall Horan's Irish accent, calls former One Direction singer 'stupid'
UNIVERSAL CITY, CALIFORNIA: Gwen Stefani blasted Niall Horan on 'The Voice' for being "stupid" during a fight over a contestant. Gwen and Niall were both vying for Brailey Lenderman, 33, of Nashville, Tennessee.
Brailey sang 'If It Makes You Happy' by Sheryl Crow, a stunning song that caused 'The Voice' coaches Niall and Gwen to turn their seats.
On the other hand, Reba McEntire and John Legend only had one slot remaining on their teams and did not turn around.
The former One Direction member and 'No Doubt' singer hit their buzzers as soon as the contestant began her first chorus. They both congratulated her from their seats as she continued to sing, as they awaited the impending conflict.
Gwen, who was the first to talk to Brailey, claimed to have noticed a lot of "texture" and "character" in her voice while attempting to persuade the candidate to join her side.
When it was Niall's turn to speak with the vocalist, he instantly pointed out various faults in the song. But it didn't stop him from battling for Brailey, even waving his hand in Gwen's face and ordering her, "Stop, Gwen. Stop!"
Then it was Gwen's turn to respond, and she called out the contestant for adoring Niall.
Following that, Blake Shelton's wife criticized his Irish accent, calling it "distracting" and mocking the way he pronounced "love."
Niall's struggle, however, was far from over. "I'm still starstruck by Stefani," he remarked, hinting that Brailey would be distracted by the celebrity as well.
Then Gwen fired her final volley, laughing, and called Niall "stupid" for making the remark. Despite her outstanding performance, the contestant chose to join Team Niall.
'The Voice' coach Gwen Stefani teases 'son' Niall Horan about Blake Shelton
During a chat with Entertainment Tonight, Gwen revealed, "Niall, I have to say—our son—it ends up that I love him. We had so much fun in the Blinds together. He's funny, he's kind of a little Blake-ish, you know? He's super awesome, he's talented, funny, cute, and has a cute accent. He's my mom's new favorite, like, everyone fell in love with him last season."
Despite the fact that Blake is not coaching this season, Gwen is taking over and taunting Niall instead.
"Blake used to come home and be like, 'Oh Niall, I love that kid. I love that kid.' I do get it, [but] my whole joke is, Niall will be like, 'Oh, I love Blake' or whatever, and I'm like, 'Well, it's weird because Blake never mentioned you one time. Never, like you're actually nonexistent in our house," she stated of their banter and leg-pulling.
Niall Horan made his own interpretation of Gwen’s 'Shelton-Stefani' necklace
On 'The Voice' Season 24, Gwen has been paying tribute to her husband Blake, and Niall wants to join in the fun!
Gwen has worn her distinctive gold "Shelton" and "Stefani" necklaces during the Blind Auditions to keep Blake near to her heart throughout her first season without him.
On the October 16 episode, the couple's "TV son," Niall, revealed that he had his own jewelry.
Niall earned a giggle from his co-coaches when he exhibited three friendship bracelet-style beaded necklaces with the words "Shelton," "Stefani," and "Horan" on them.
"It should have been a nicer necklace if you're gonna copy what she's doing," John Legend teased of Niall's shoddy imitation.
"He's not at this level!" Gwen cracked a joke.
'The Voice' Season 24 airs on Mondays and Tuesdays on NBC at 8 pm ET.
