'The Voice' Season 20: Pia Renee's singing reminds Snoop Dogg of Whitney Houston making him 'open his left eye'
Snoop Dogg often seems to wander through life on the brink of falling asleep, but in the words of the rapper, one singer on 'The Voice' Season 20 got him to open his left eye and actually pay attention. Singer Pia Renee from Team Legend reminded Snoop Dogg so much of Whitney Houston, that he almost couldn't believe it.
Pia Renee who will be singing 'What the World Needs Now is Love' for the Knockout round, certainly impressed Mega Mentor Snoop Dogg with her preview performance. Before performing for Snoop Dogg, Pia shared that she unfortunately lost her mother shortly after the Battle Rounds on 'The Voice'. Snoop Dogg said to her 'Your mother is smiling down on you, so make her proud'. Pia certainly did, so much so that Snoop Dogg could barely contain his excitement.

After Pia's performance, a clearly pleasantly surprised Snoop said, "You made me feel like Whitney was up there for a minute". To emphasize just how impressed he was, Snoop says, "I had to open my left eye to see if that was really Whitney up there". Pia, who is unsurprisingly a Whitney Houston fan, couldn't have been happier about the comparison.
Pia Renee is certainly not a newbie when it comes to singing. Pia Renee discovered her talent for music early on, at just six years old, but didn't pursue music as a career until she was in her 20s. She's also not new to reality television. Pia auditioned for Season 7 of ‘American Idol’ where she managed to even impress Simon Cowell. Renee is also a skilled bass player and has been a backup singer with Ethiopian singer-songwriter Teddy Afro. Renee has also appeared in a non-speaking role in a couple of episodes of the hit FOX series ‘Empire’.
