Season 20 of 'The Voice' will see Nick Jonas returning as a coach in place of Gwen Stefani

Season 19 of 'The Voice' might still be underway but that didn't stop showrunners of the hit reality singing competition show from teasing fans about the next season of their favorite show. Season 20 of 'The Voice' will be featuring some big changes. Read on to know more about these changes.

Release date

Season 20 of 'The Voice' is expected to premiere in the spring of 2021. Keep watching this space for further updates about the release date of the hit NBC show.

Format

According to NBC, "The four-time Emmy Award-winning 'The Voice' returns with the strongest vocalists from across the country invited to compete in the blockbuster vocal competition show's new season. The show's innovative format features five stages of competition: the Blind Auditions, the Battle Rounds, Knockouts, Playoffs and, finally the Live Performance Shows.

The singers with the lowest number of votes will be sent home each week. In the end, one will be named 'The Voice' and will receive the grand prize of a recording contract. We will just have to wait and watch to see if the show will retain the same safety protocols it's currently following on Season 19 of 'The Voice' owing to the social distancing norms laid down due to the Covid-19 pandemic, or if it will resume to its previous format of having live audience and performances.

Coaches

Blake Shelton, Kelly Clarkson and John Legend will take their seats as coaches once again when the series returns for its spring season. But Gwen Stefani will not be returning, and taking her place as a returning coach is Nick Jonas. This wouldn't be the first time that Nick is replacing Gwen as the coach on the show. During Season 18 too Nick took Gwen's place as a coach, which led to some playful banter and rivalry between Blake Shelton and him, as Nick was replacing his then-girlfriend, Gwen.

The official trailer for Season 20 of 'The Voice' hasn't been released yet but a teaser revealing Nick Jonas as the new coach has been shared by the network.
