'The Voice' Season 18: Brittney Allen wows judges with her range and control over low notes

On a show where high notes often make chairs turn, it was refreshing to see a singer display complete control of her lower range

Brittney Allen, a 29-year-old from Columbus, Georgia, is ready for her shining moment as she takes the stage.

The singer's introduction to music came through her father, Robert, who she says is a musician. He got her started with vocal lessons when she was 10 years old. He saw his dream come to life through Brittney.

Brittney also shares that she lost her mother a while back. Her mother was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer when Brittney was 18, leaving Brittney with a lot of responsibilities and this, in turn, made her grow up pretty fast. She almost gave up music after her mother's death but a year after her mother's passing she found her way back to performing and singing again — because that is what her mother would have wanted her to do.

Dad Robert says her mother would be proud of her as Brittney gets ready to walk out to the stage. As she takes a step towards that journey, she says that she is not alone because her mother will be watching over her.

Right as she steps up, Blake Shelton asks, "Country singer?" Brittney begins singing 'Dancing On My Own' and Nick Jonas immediately says he loves the song. The singer glides beautifully through the opening notes and while everyone is waiting for her to pick things up and wow us with her high notes, she does something interesting. She wows us with the lows.

The singer demonstrates a stunning lower range in her vocals and her control over this part of her range shows us she can even do some gorgeous runs. These notes immediately wow Blake who can't help but exclaim in amazement.

As Brittney picks things up, the notes get bigger and bolder and John hits his button. None of the other judges turn, meaning John automatically wins this gorgeous singer.

Kelly Clarkson says she found Brittney's tone to be beautiful and she even praises John saying the singer has found the right coach for her. Nick quips, "If only you had a coach with more awards to help you along the way."

"It's adequate," jokes Kelly,  John jokes he accepts the "mediocre compliment" and moves on to speak to his newest team member.

He says that her vocal choices allowed the listeners to really "hear the contours of your voice", adding that what really sold her performance was what she accomplished with her lower notes. He does note that he heard a small hiccup when he turned because she was excited and lost her control for a few seconds, but she picked it back up.

"Contours? Isn't that a bird? Big vulture?" jokes Blake, as Nick says he has added the phrase to his notes.

With her range and control, Brittney is clearly a strong contestant to watch out.
