LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: There's no direct correlation between age and talent. 'The Voice' Season 22's contestant Emma Brooke Alley proved it with her incredible vocals on the premiere episode of NBC's singing competition show.
The 19-year-old South Carolina native walked up to the stage and gave a jaw-dropping performance that ended with impressive three-chair turns from John Legend, Gwen Stefani, and Camila Cabello. Who is Emma Brooke?
As mentioned above, Emma is a 19-year-old from Lyman, South Carolina. She is currently a student at Converse University. In her introduction package, the teen revealed that she was introduced to classical music at the tender age of six, and has been singing ever since. Her father, Ian, joked about how Emma broke speakers multiple times in churches, thanks to her high notes. Jokes aside, Emma explained how her background in classical music has given her the basis to experience and experiment with different styles. Her website states, "Whether she’s performing an Italian Aria, leading praise and worship, performing the "Messiah" with a full orchestra, belting out a Broadway tune on stage or performing her originals with her band, audiences are immediately captivated by her performance."
Some of Emma's notable accomplishments include opening for country artist Hunter Hayes and being singled out to sing by Lauren Daigle during her 2020 world tour. In a lengthy Instagram post, the teen recounted her "absolutely amazing" experience of meeting her idol Lauren and catching the singer's eye before eventually being called onto the stage to perform alongside her!
"The concert was absolutely amazing, the energy in the room was so high and you felt like everyone’s hearts were one. From singing for Lauren to talking to her about how she got started, the phenomenal music at the concert, and even her mentioning how I kept catching her eye.... Seeing Lauren on stage while she was singing and dancing and full of energy and love truly inspired me to work harder to be able to have that opportunity; the chance to change the world and impact people with my music and be myself while performing!💗✨🌿," she shared.

For her audition performance, Emma picked the song 'California Dreamin', explaining how she always dreamt of coming out to LA and trying for 'The Voice'. Emma barely finished her first verse before John turned his chair for her. Soon Gwen and Camila followed suit. When Camila expressed how she loved the song choice, Emma explained that she was trying to steer more to the contemporary world after being trained in classical music.
The judges then began praising her and pitching themselves to her as her potential coach by pointing out how they can help her. John declared that he wanted to help her unlearn some of the structure that she has been put through. Although Blake didn't turn his chair for Emma, he played the role of a supportive husband and pushed the youngster to pick his wife as her coach by lying about Lauren Daigle's favorite artist being Gwen.
After some deliberation, Emma finally chose John as her coach. Her new coach continued to praise her tone and couldn't stop gushing over her impressive vocals at the age of 19. We can't wait to watch Emma's journey on 'The Voice'.
