The View's Ana Navarro calls California Governor Gavin Newsom 'little desperate' as Ron DeDantis accepts his challenge for debate
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has reportedly accepted California Governor Gavin Newsom’s challenge for a debate on Fox News, according to The New York Times. This potential debate quickly became part of the ‘Hot Topics’ segment on ‘The View’ as the season finale rolled before the summer hiatus.
While the idea of the debate has been appealing to the hosts, Ana Navarro said she did not understand the point of it and took a dig at Newsom following his proposal for a debate with DeSantis. As her other co-hosts backed Newsom, Navarro stood her ground and criticized his decision to do so.
‘He should be afraid’
Joy Behar moderated Friday’s segment as she read out the topic to her co-hosts. She said, “So, here’s the topic. Ron DeSantis…you remember him?” Behar joked before she continued, “He’s been too scared to even mention Donald Trump, he doesn’t hardly say anything about him, am I right? What’s he so scared of? But he is not afraid of Gavin Newsom apparently, who has now sort of said he wants to debate him.”
Sunny Hostin was quick to comment on this as she said, “He should be afraid…he’s very attractive.” As Behar agreed with Hostin, ‘The View’ played the clip on Fox News where DeSantis agreed to engage in a debate with Newsom.
‘A little desperate’
After the clip was played, Behar asked her co-hosts, “What’s the deal with Newsom?” She asked them whether or not he was running in the 2024 presidential elections. Navarro was the first to jump into the conversation as she took a dig at Newsom and said, “Oh god, for what? Best hair in the United States? The nominee of the Democratic Party is Joe Biden and his Vice President is Kamala Harris.”
Navarro earned applause from the live audience. As Navarro folded her arms and basked in the applause, Behar offered an explanation for Newsom’s involvement in this election. Behar said, “Maybe he’s setting himself for 28.”
After Behar, Sunny Hostin also chimed in with a potential explanation and said, “He could be setting himself up for 2028. I think we all read that President Obama had lunch with Biden, and that explains that there were some problems with his candidacy.”
Hostin also took a look at Newsom in relation to California’s impressive economy. As the co-hosts continued to discuss Newsom, Navarro also added, “I think it’s a stupid idea by Gavin Newsom, and I think it kind of shows him as a little desperate for attention.”
