'The Unicorn' Season 2 Episode 2: What goes wrong with Wade and Shannon's date? Here's how her family ruins plan
Spoilers for Season 2 Episode 2 'It's Complicated'
Wade has finally managed to score not one, but two dates with his dream woman Shannon, that too in a row. But before the budding couple decided they should 'do this again' there were hassles to be overcome in the first date itself. And we know better than to expect everything to go right on a date, no matter how romantic, as long as it's on a comedy series.
The first problem arose when Wade showed up at Shannon's place and noticed her very young son Bert open the door. Shannon was in the background, going off at someone on full volume. When Wade asks Bert where his mom is, he little kid just smirks and tells him she is yelling at his dad on the phone. Once done with the argument, Shannon gets to the door and tells Wade the predicament she's landed in. Her ex, Doug was supposed to babysit Bert and is yet to show up, even though he is aware that Shannon needs to leave for her date.
Rambling through her agony, Shannon expresses her disappointment at her ex-husband not showing up to babysit, admitting that she was really looking forward to this date. She had even shaved her legs and everything, she tells Wade, immediately regretting it and following it up with how she has no clue why she would tell him that. Wade finds it funny though and is ready for a raincheck, as he himself suggests. But Shannon isn't ready to let go so quickly. She put effort into date night and refuses to let her ex-husband ruin it for the two of them.
So Shannon comes up with the crazy idea of inviting Wade in for a dinner at her place. Since he's already there, she could whip up something and not waste the chance to get to know each other. And Wade follows it up with how Shannon shaved her legs for this, so the night has to be worthwhile. Thus, the couple settles down for they hope is their first dinner of many to come, but things aren't as smooth as they seem. Halfway into the date, Shannon's ex-husband Doug shows up. And when that interruption is tackled, Bert, whose bedtime was long gone, wakes up in his sleep and pees in the drawers of their home.
We had been teased about how Wade would have to become used to Shannon's living arrangements but this is both hilarious and awkward at the same time. The yet-to-be couple's disaster date is saved by Wade insisting they do this again, some other time, thus offering hope for a future not so dim. Of course, they will have to inform Bertie about the date, or heaven knows what else he would urinate in back home.
