When Nathan Ruggles aka Nate decided to suddenly propose to his girlfriend Lauren Pounds while filming for Netflix's 'The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On', it wasn't just their co-stars who weren't entirely convinced about the intent behind the proposal. Several fans too took to Twitter to declare that Nate's proposal to Lauren came from a place of insecurity, jealous, and dubbed it 'fake'.

Nate and Lauren had been dating for over two and a half years. Nate was ready to take their relationship to the next level and marry her, but their conflicting views on children became an obstacle to them. While Nate was determined to have children, Lauren wasn't keen about it and revealed that she felt 'uneasy' around children. Nate joined the Netflix show ready to find someone else who would be ready to have children with him, in case Lauren didn't change her mind. He was soon drawn to Shanique Imari and April Marie. He was also attracted to Madlyn Ballatori. But when none of those women picked Nate to partner up with, he began feeling uneasy. On the other hand, Lauren was beginning to form a strong connection with Colby Kissinger.

When it was Colby's turn to pick his partner, he chose Lauren. But before Lauren could give her reply, Nate jumped in and proposed to her. He even reassured Lauren that he was ready to forgo children just to be with her. Lauren happily agreed to his proposal and left the show with him. After watching Nate's timing of his proposal, several fans were convinced that he only proposed because he was feeling threatened by Colby and Lauren's budding connection.

A fan tweeted, "Why do I feel like Nate decided to ask Lauren to marry him (Even though he wants Kids and Lauren doesn't) because he's threatened by Colby and no one chose him? #TheUltimatum #theultimatummarryormoveon." "The way Nate got up soooo fast when he could see Lauren feeling Colby has me dying #TheUltimatum," wrote a fan. "The thought of Colby having 3 weeks with Lauren had NATE SHOOK LIKE THAT #TheUltimatum," joked a fan.

Fans began calling the couple's relationship 'fake'. A fan commented, "THAT SH*T WAS NOT GENUINE! Nate was feeling insecure that nobody wanted to spend 3 weeks with him, and stopped Lauren from adventuring. If he can’t have his cake and eat it too, she can’t either. #TheUltimatum." "Nate and Lauren #TheUltimatum feels FAKE FAKE FAKE FAKE I call FAKE," added a fan.

Considering the couple failed to work through their issues and their stance on having children, several fans began predicting that Lauren and Nate's relationship wouldn't last for too long. "Y'all what the HELL just happened with Nate and Lauren? That's weird and they're gonna be broken up in like 3 months #TheUltimatum," shared a fan. "Nate and Lauren are not going to work out. He only proposed because he didn’t have anyone else and didn’t want Lauren with Colby. Period. #TheUltimatum #UltimatumNetflix," observed a fan. "Nate and Lauren are just delaying the breakup plsssss release each other #TheUltimatumm," urged a fan.
