'The Titan Games' Season 2 Episode 1: Fans call show The Rock-infused version of 'American Gladiators'
The Season 2 of 'The Titan Games' premiered with a crackling two-hour episode. Hosted by Dwayne Johnson, the episode saw competitors go up against each other in different kinds of challenges, such as the Herculean Pull, Nuts and Bolts, Launchpad, and the Lunar Impact. Chantae McMillan defeated Alexis Balliet twice and then inflicted another defeat on boxer Claressa Shields, who thought that the competition would be a walk in the park. That wasn't the last of it, though. McMillan won against Jess Weatherby and defended her title. Fans were in awe, and couldn't help saying that she was an "absolute beast", as a compliment, of course.
And then there were the men. Matt Chan won against his competitor Bartley Weaver IV, but lost against former NFL player Joe Thomas at Mount Olympus. Thomas battled Steven Shelby as well and retained his defending title. While he won against Chan by a millisecond, it wasn't so easy against Shelby. Fans are in awe with the participants and the 'The Titan Games' and some compared it to the old UK show 'Gladiators', while others, of course, referenced the film, and some compared it to the 1989 show 'American Gladiators'.
"This show is American Gladiators with rock hosting," a fan tweeted. "#TitanGames is so good...It’s like a The Rock infused version of American Gladiators. These challenges are great, but I’d lose my mind for some Powerball or Breakthrough and Conquer," wrote another fan. "Its like gladiators, i swear i can feel spartacus. cant stop watching! #TITANGAMES," a fan tweeted.
However, others noted that the editing was excessive and found the new format "cheesy." A fan wrote, "This over-the-top dramatized editing is jarring and takes me out of it. How about we just have one continuous shot? Worked for American Gladiators. #TitanGames," while another added, "So aren't the #TitanGames are just a modern version of American Gladiators? Either way I think I need to check it out." A fan seemed unimpressed with the show's new format and complained, "Not a fan of the new #TitanGames format. Too American Gladiator. Loved it when it was purely "civilian" competitors. This new thing is too cheesy and produced."
'The Titan Games' airs on NBC, Mondays, 8 pm.
