Harlan Coben's famed 2015 psychological thriller novel, 'The Stranger' is now a major upcoming miniseries on Netflix. The eight-part series follows the lives of suburban families who are caught in a web of secrets told by a stranger, each having a staggering impact on their lives.

And if the trailer and the social media hype are anything to go by, the gripping drama might just on top of the binge-watch shows this weekend list. Here's what we know about the series so far:

Plot

A mysterious person known as 'The Stranger' appears to people and tells them secrets that turn their lives upside-down.

Nobody knows the origin or whereabouts of the person, but the secrets revealed are true and it's a race against time for Adam Price (Richard Armitage) to expose the stranger after she tells him a secret about his wife, Corrine (Dervla Kirwan).

The official synopsis reads: "A web of secrets sends family man Adam Price on a desperate quest to discover the truth about the people closest to him."

Director/ Writer

'The Stranger' is helmed by Daniel O'Hara and Hannah Quinn. Danny Brocklehurst comes in as the writer and the miniseries is based on the novel by Harlan Coben.

The trailer shows a picture-perfect family, the Prices until the stranger appears and tells Adam Price that his wife faked her pregnancy. When confronted, she says "there's more than this" and disappears.

The rest of the footage is about the surrounding mysteries and Adam's frantic search for his wife. The trailer also introduces us to Siobhan Finneran's DS Johanna who plays a key role in the series. 

News

Talking to Irishnews about the series, Armitage said: "I hope they come with Adam on this detective journey because he's trying to get to the bottom of not what happened, but what's happened to her."

"Initially you think it's going to be a big expose on what his wife has done, but it's really about finding out where she's gone and why. I hope that the audience is sitting on the edge of their seats trying to find Corinne as much as Adam is."
