Nathan Redman (Russell Tovey) has never been able to forget the worst night of his life: a party that led to the sudden and shocking death of a young woman. Only he and Bob Morrow (Bertie Carvel), an eccentric old acquaintance, know what really happened and they’ve resolved to keep it that way. But years later, Bob appears at Nathan’s door with terrifying news that threatens to tear Nathan’s world apart. Because Nathan has his own secrets now. Secrets that could destroy everything he has desperately fought to build for himself and his family.

We jump back to the 2009 party and Nathan notices Elise Fox (Simone Ashley). Bob arrives and asks Nathan how he is doing. The second episode of ‘The Sister’ throws in snippets of the flashback and makes you wonder what really happened back then?

What happened at the 2009 party?

Back in 2009, we finally get to see the New Year’s Eve party where Nathan catches Elise, the life of the party. At the same time, Bob approaches Nathan at the bar and the two talk about how they don't really like parties. Bob then suggests the two do drugs so they can settle into the mood. At the party, Nathan quizzes Bob about his belief in ghosts and paranormal activities. In a frightening moment, conspiracy-theorist Bob reveals he has seen a ghost and they get back to the party.

Once back, Nathan catches Bob chatting with some people and Elise getting cozy with a man. Checking up on his phone, Nathan wanders into the woods to catch a signal. That's when Elise comes behind him and chirpily says, “Happy New Year!” Soon after, Bob arrives in his car as Elise and Nathan jump in for a ride. In the car, we also see Elise snorting some drugs and it seems like a chilling set up for rape and murder. Only the episode doesn't entirely reveal what happens.

How did Elise Fox go missing?

Now, while we don't know whether Elise was murdered or accidentally overdosed, Bob and Nathan pick up spades and go back into the woods. After a lot of convincing, Nathan joins him. Confused and shaken, he asks Bob if he had really seen Elise as a ghost at the end of his bed.

Meanwhile, Holly Fox (Amrita Acharia) confides in her friend, Jacki (Nina Toussaint-White), a detective on the Elise Fox investigation that Nathan has nightmares and cries in his sleep. That triggers something in Jacki and she is further shocked when Holly tells her about Bob's sudden arrival.

To check if there was something amiss, she goes back to the police station and looks back at Elise’s file. She finds the video of Nathan’s interview where talks about being in the car with Bob and then she hops on Bob's interview. The episode ends at that scene and makes you wonder: Who really killed Elise, Bob or Nathan? Did Bob kill her and make Nathan believe he had done the deed?
