What was the real story behind 'American Conspiracy: The Octopus Murders?'

The real-life documentary, which debuted on Netflix on February 28, explores the demise of journalist Danny Casolaro, who was investigating the intricate conspiracy theory known as 'The Octoups' at the time of his passing.

On August 10, 1991, Casolaro was discovered dead in his hotel room, having presumably taken his own life by inflicting multiple cuts on his wrist.

Despite family members and numerous news organisations casting doubt on the cause of Casolaro's death, the autopsy ultimately determined that he had killed himself.

What makes the death case more murkier is the harassment call Casolaro was receiving just before his death and the member of the FBI task force investigating the case raised suspicions about the conclusion of the self-killing.

Furthermore, the infamous controversies, like the controversial win of Ronald Reagan in the 1980 presidential election, the Iran-Contra scandal, and the collapse of the Bank of Credit and Commerce International, that Casolaro was working on contributed to deepening the enigma behind his death.

'American Conspiracy: The Octopus Murders' is now streaming on Netflix.
