'The Righteous Gemstones' Episode 6 stills indicate rivalry between Johnny Seasons grows as Judy makes her presence felt
'The Righteous Gemstones' over the last 5 episodes introduced audiences to quite a few conflicts including Gideon (Skyler Gisondo) trying to cheat his family out of their fortune, the tension buried beneath the relationship between Baby Billy (Walton Goggins) and Eli Gemstone (John Goodman) and finally, Judy Gemstone's (Edi Patterson) desire to be in the spotlight for once. She wants to be seen just like her brothers Jesse Gemstone (Danny McBride) and Kelvin Gemstone (Adam Devine).
In the upcoming episodes, we will see if the Gemstones resolve all their conflicts and if they don't, then the consequences of it all. From the pictures released by HBO of the upcoming episode, it is certain episode 6 will address at least some of these conflicts.
In one of the pictures, we see Baby Billy standing next to Eli's daughter, Judy. Her brothers are noticeably missing. After having seen how Baby Billy manipulated Aimee Leigh (Jennifer Nettles) in the previous episode and understanding how selfish he is when it comes to being in the spotlight himself, it begs the question as to what devious plan he has next.
While in the initial episodes it looked like Eli and Baby Billy had come to terms, the animosity between them seems to still be brewing especially after we saw how Baby Billy treated his sister. So far, there has never been a clear reason as to why Judy was not involved in the Gemstones Church like Jesse and Kelvin.
Initially, it looked like this was because Judy was a woman and Jesse's attitude towards women being at the forefront of anything only enforces this belief further. But after seeing how Eli treated his wife, who was as much a part of the church and the work on television as he was, we wonder why he wouldn't let Judy be a part as well.
Then, we have another picture that features Jesse and his gang back together. After he caused Gideon and Scotty's accident by chasing them, we did not see what transpired. Seems like Jesse is still unaware of what his son is up to, despite getting his hands on the truck that he chased in episode 4, driven by Gideon and Scotty.
The chase had resulted in an accident leading to Gideon and Scotty's escape, leaving their truck behind. Will this lead him to the truth about his son and his connection to Jesse being blackmailed? The blackmail now also involves Kelvin and Judy, so if everything were to blow open wide, the entire Gemstone family could be in ruins for taking drugs, attempted murder and prostitution among other things.
Finally, we see the head of the original Locust Grove church with his allies in one of the stills hinting at the episode also addressing the conflict between Eli's church and that of John Seasons'. Where will this go, considering it is Baby Billy who is taking care of the Locust Grove branch of the Gemstones' church.
'The Righteous Gemstones' Episode 6 will air on Sunday at 10 p.m. ET on HBO.
