'The Purge' Season 2 Episode 7 should have had a Kelen revenge plot because she deserved better

Kelen's turnover from the sweet, docile college sweetheart to a badass femme fatale, facing off Ben in the coming Purge night is now just a dream

This article contains spoilers for Season 2 Episode 7 'Should I Stay or Should I Go'

The inevitable has happened and sweet dear Kelen is no longer with us in 'The Purge' community.

Tonight's episode just confirmed our worst fears about Ben evolving into a homicidal maniac with no guilt or remorse in the aftermath of Kelen finding out the truth about him, and as her young life came to a tragic end, our worst fears and most obvious speculations came true.

After a family trip goes wrong, Kelen dies in the most brutally graphic ways at Ben's hands and we think she deserved better. At least a teeny tiny revenge plot for old time's sake!

In tonight's Episode 7, we see Kelen rushing to get out of Ben's family home before he can wake up. Last week's episode ended with Kelen finding Ben's Campus Killer mask in his luggage so it's understandable why she's rushing to get herself an Uber at the crack of dawn.

Things, however, don't work in her favor and eventually Ben has to drive her back to town. By this time, Ben already knows Kelen has been through his luggage so him insisting on driving her back is all the more sinister.

The situation gets murkier when Ben brings up the topic on the car ride back to town and noticing Kelen's visibly shaken stance, he offers her a knife to help her feel safe.

It's all deja vu for Ben because this is exactly how he ended up murdering his pro-purge friend Andy last week. For obvious reasons, the more Ben wants those close to him to understand his murderous nature, the farther they get from sympathizing with him.

Kelen tries her hardest throughout the ride to calm Ben down. She even goes to the extent of making him feel like he is right and brave and still loved by her despite his morbid need to kill, but it's not just her day.

When she tries leaving behind a note on a roadside gas station washroom, Ben finds it and in a fit of rage, confronts her as well. Poor Kelen, out of fear, even does everything Ben asks her to, just to ensure he doesn't attack her.

In fact, when Ben asks her to cut him with the knife to see that taking blood isn't all that abnormal, Kelen — like a pure badass — stabs him in the upper thigh and runs out of the car into the middle of the road to seek help from cars passing by.

It's a lot of quick thinking done in a fit of panic which really makes us commend Kelen's presence of mind — that is until she reaches the middle of the road and a car hits her, leaving her almost fatally injured.

Ben steps in at this moment, bleeding out of his own thigh and sits down on the road next to a profusely bleeding out Kelen. But of course Ben's murderous instincts have to take over and he can't afford to leave witnesses behind, so he strangles the already heavily injured Kelen in her final moments, and kills her.

It's pretty bloody, gory, and tragic in classic Blumhouse style, making it one of the most poignant moments on the show this season.

But what would have made it better was the offchance that Kelen survives and executes a very sinister and elaborate revenge strategy to bring her serial killer boyfriend to justice on the coming purge night.

All that sweet, supportive college sweetheart turning into a femme fatale thirsting for vengeance would have just made everything so much more interesting. Plus, can you imagine a Ben and Kelen face off on purge night?

Well. Now it's just a dream. 'The Purge' airs on Tuesdays at 9 pm only on the USA Network.
