LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: If you are a fan of horror movies, then Russell Crowe is set to take you on a terrifying journey of a man who claimed tens and thousands of exorcisms over the course of his life. However, there was one incident that changed him completely and forced him to search for answers while spending his time in Vatican City. Titled ‘The Pope’s Exorcist’, the movie is based on the writings of Father Gabrielle Amorth, an Italian Catholic Priest and renowned exorcist who established the International Association of Exorcists.

The trailer begins with the introduction of Crowe’s character Gabrielle Amorth who is known for performing exorcisms. He is being questioned by the management after he performed an exorcism on a young lady who gave away her life by jumping off of a building. While answering their questions, Father Amorth says what he did was not an exorcism and also noted that the majority of cases do not require an exorcism. He was getting annoyed by all the questioning and was ready to leave when he was stopped by the people sitting in front of him because they had more questions for him. However, Crowe’s character stops them by saying this insane line that makes the movie more intriguing. He says, “You have a problem with me, you talk to my boss – The Pope.”

As the trailer progresses, we get to know that The Pope has a new case that needs Father Amorth’s attention. A young boy has been possessed by a demon and is spitting out dead birds from his mouth. It seems the demon is ready to meet the Chief Exorcist of the Vatican and gives an indication that he only wants to meet him and no one else.

Meanwhile, Father Amorth reaches a place where he is looking for some answers. However, it looks like he has found some things that the Vatican didn’t want anyone to see. The clip moves forward with the highly anticipated meeting and things go from bad to worse as the demon shows how powerful it actually is. But the most interesting part about that entire moment happens when the demon tells the priest that “he’s being played” by the Vatican.

The trailer ends on a rather intriguing note and seems to be indicating that the Pope’s Exorcist might get “possessed” by the demon while getting too close to reality.

“Imagine what could happen if the Devil possessed the soul of the Pope’s Exorcist? Who will defend you,” says one of the senior priests, to which, Amorth replies, “My faith does not require a defense.”

Fans didn’t shy away from sharing their opinions on the terrifying first trailer of ‘The Pope’s Exocist’ and said that they can’t wait to see Crowe acting in a horror movie that’s inspired by the actual files of Father Amorth. One of the fans said, “Have to admit this looks interesting.” Another social media user wrote, “This looks extremely interesting, wow. Sony Pictures never misses with their movies.” Another fan noted, “That sounds like an incredibly interesting and unique movie!
