'The Outpost': Meet Orlando Bloom, Scott Eastwood and the star-studded cast of Rod Lurie's war drama

'The Outpost' will be one of those highly-anticipated films set to hit theatres when they open. The Rod Lurie-directed action war drama based on Jake Tapper's book, 'The Outposts: An Untold Story of American Valor' follows the battle of Kamdesh where US soldiers face an attack by a force of some 400  Taliban insurgents.

The film was scheduled to premiere at the 2020 South by Southwest (SXSW) Film Festival. That, however, did not happen when the convention was canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic. The film will now release on July 3 in a limited theatrical release and will be available on demand. 'The Outpost' boasts of an ensemble cast and has some big names in Orlando Bloom ('Black Hawk Down'), Scott Eastwood ('The Fate of the Furious'), and Caleb Landry Jones ('X-Men: First Class'). Here's a quick look at the cast and the characters they portray.

Orlando Bloom

Bloom essays 1st Lt. Benjamin D Keating who fends off the Taliban in the film. While much about his role is kept a secret, Keating, in real life, was KIA on Nov 26, 2006, when his vehicle overturned, The camp where the battle of 2009 took place was renamed to honor the late officer. Bloom is known for elf Legolas in 'The Lord of the Rings' trilogy, a role he reprised in 'The Hobbit' film series.  He is also best remembered for playing Will Turner in 'Pirates of the Caribbean'. 

Scott Eastwood

Eastwood essays the role of Medal of Honor recipient Staff Sgt. Clint Romesha who was awarded the Medal of Honor for the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. The son of Hollywood legend, Clint Eastwood, he boasts of an impressive CV which includes 'Gran Torino', 'Invictus', 'Fury', 'The Fate of the Furious' and 'Snowden'. 

Caleb Landry Jones

Ty Carter was awarded the United States of America's highest military honor for his actions at the 2009 Battle of Kamdesh in Afghanistan. Jones, remembered for his role as Jeremy Armitage, the creepy older brother of Rose in Jordan Peele's critically acclaimed horror flick 'Get Out', plays Carter in the action war drama. He will also be seen in 'Viena and the Fantomes', an '80s-set drama about a punk band on tour set to release on VoD on June 30.

Shane Courville, Ernest Cavazos as Sgt. Armando Avalos, and Scott Alda Coffey as Sgt. Michael P. Scusa.
