'The Old Man' ended its seven-episode run on FX on Thursday, July 21, and while there is a confirmed Season 2 in the works, the finale left fans divided. While one segment was hooked with the cliffhanger, some saw it coming and also had issues with the pace of the plot. The Jeff Bridges-starrer ended chapter seven on a gripping note, but it couldn't win over all of the fandoms.

Episode 7 reveals that Emily/Angela (Alia Shawkat) is indeed Faraz Hamzad's daughter and was the key reason he was hunting Dan Chase. The final minutes of the show see him and Belour/Abbey (Leem Lubany) leave with Emily to the US and now the Afghan warlord returns to claim what was rightfully his.

"Excellent first season. Sleeper hit of 2022. #TheOldManFX," one of the tweets read. "It’s like each week a new layer is revealed. And now it’s a season finale! #TheOldManFX," another fan tweeted. "@FXNetworks I'm ready for season 2 already!!! Please tell me #TheOldManFX will be apart of the fall lineup?!" one of the fans asked. "So...Season 2 production starting when? But on the real, a great first season finale and I'm glad that this is not truly the end. #TheOldManFX," another remarked. ""I'm sorry this has to be the end of it." But it's not, Dan. You got renewed for a second season. #TheOldManFX," a tweet said.

Some though felt the finale was a bit of a letdown. "#TheOldManFX ended tonight, and... well, it definitely subverted expectations. The show rested on its smaller, character moments, and the finale proved that. Less action than I expected, and more emotion. Sadly, the dialogue was too cheesy for me to get emotionally invested. 5/10." Another seconded this saying, "I really wanted this to be good because I love Bridges but just kept waiting for #TheOldManFX to start getting good and action packed (like the series trailer showed) and it just never happened. A lot of time invested (and wasted) w this series."

"#TheOldManFX Think it should have ended tonight......not prepared for more useless dialog. Sorry guys......should have ended," another tweet read. "What a huge waste of time and acting talent is FX’s series #TheOldManFX. One-third plot and action, two-thirds excruciatingly ponderous feelings-and-relationships dialogue, and the reward for sticking it out is … come back next season?" a comment said.
