Derek Peth is odds-on to be the next 'Bachelor' and that probably doesn't bode well for fan favorite Mike Johnson

Derek Peth is currently one among the front runners in the long list of potential bachelors lined up for 'The Bachelor' season 24 that will premiere in 2020.

From rooting for Mike Johnson to be the next bachelor, the internet has found its new obsession in Derek Peth.

Derek Peth is currently one among the front runners in the long list of potential bachelors lined up for 'The Bachelor' season 24 that will premiere in 2020. Derek first appeared on Jojo Fletcher's season of 'The Bachelorette', and later appeared on Bachelor in Paradise where he ended up getting engaged to Taylor Nolan. After the couple broke off their engagement, Derek returned to season 6 of Bachelor in Paradise, in hopes of finding love once again. And ever since the series premiered earlier this month, it did seem like he had found true love in Demi Burnett, but that was before she told him she still had feelings for the mystery woman (Kristian Haggerty) she was seeing back home.

Demi broke things off with Derek after Kristian arrived in paradise to pursue her. This news broke Derek, who was in tears knowing that the one woman he had eyes on was no longer his. Though he did behave like a more adorable version of Cameron Ayala crying, Derek was one among the most decent guys in paradise, and he even supported Demi through her decision, sharing his love and support for the queer queen. Post the episode after seeing Derek get his heart broken once again, fans stormed the internet rooting for Derek to be the next bachelor. It was not just fans who were rooting for Derek, but other Bachelor Nation alums too.

Wells Adams took to Twitter and wrote, "#derekforbachelor Appreciation video for my roommate on the @BacheloretteABC. My bourbon drinking buddy. My bestie from the TV world and honestly the one of the best guys I’ve ever met. We don’t deserve @pethderek." Another fan wrote, "I would 100% be down for Derek being the next Bachelor... he has shown a truly beautiful side of himself on BIP. The maturity is off the charts and I think he would go into his own season with genuine intentions and purpose. #DerekForBachelor."

And all of a sudden, it was Mike who?

Mike is no longer the first preference. Mike was also one among the contestants on Bachelor in Paradise season 6. He first appeared on The Bachelorette season 15 with Hannah Brown, but after he got dumped by Brown, Mike was favored as the No 1 contestant for becoming the next bachelor. It would also make him the first black bachelor the series has had.  To be honest, there is nothing wrong with Derek, and he is a perfect contender to be the next bachelor, but Mike, on the other hand, has more to offer than Derek does, and it is about time that the series has its first black “Bachelor” in the franchise’s 20-year history.

Though Derek is sweet, emotional and looking for true love, well, so is Mike, plus he comes with the added charm that Derek lacks just a wee bit. Following fans of Derek taking the internet by storm campaigning for him to become the next bachelor, there are bachelor alums who are still rooting for Mike to be the next bachelor. And we can't wait to see who the producers pick as the next bachelor for season 24.

But whoever it might be, we sure are in for an entertaining season. Bachelor in Paradise currently airs every Monday and Tuesday on ABC. Check your local listings for more information.
