Her life turns upside down when she gets brutally injured on her belly during a fight and there’s a risk of losing her child. Fortunately, her child survives, but The Mother is forced to leave her kid because of the dangerous situation. She leaves the place and starts living in Alaska, leaving her daughter, Zoe, with Sergeant William Cruise (Omari Hardwick).

However, things get weird when Cruise calls The Mother back and says that they need her help to keep their daughter safe from Adrian Lovell (Joseph Fiennes).

The Mother does everything to keep her daughter safe, but at what cost? Let’s take a look at how ‘The Mother’ ends her story.

‘The Mother’ Ending Explained: Who is the Father?

We actually don’t get a clear answer to that question. Is Hector the father? The movie suggests that Lopez’s character dated both Hector and Adrian. However, when Zoe gets kidnapped, it is revealed that she has been abducted by Hector’s men. The Mother and Cruise visit Alvarez’s place to rescue Zoe. Mother takes out all men and saves Zoe. She gives Zoe to Cruise and gets back inside to end everything. However, Alvarez corners her with a gun and asks her if Zoe is his girl. The mother replies by saying, “Does it matter?” before killing him.

On the other hand, Adrian is another character that might be Zoe’s father. Mind you, he is the one who stabbed The Mother in her stomach to kill her and her unborn child. In the flashback sequences, we see Mother trying to get Hector and Adrian together. She wanted them to work together. A few moments later, we see Adrian and The Mother dancing with each other where things get pretty hot. Right after that, she tells Cruise that she got pregnant.

The scene hints that Adrian is the father. But throughout the movie, The Mother keeps on saying that Zoe is “only mine.”

‘The Mother’ Ending Explained: Was the Mother able to save her child?

In the third act of the movie, Zoe and her mother leave for Alaska so that they can be safe. However, she assures Zoe’s foster parents that she will return with Zoe once the threat has been neutralized. The duo spends time with each other and Zoe gets to know her real mother and why she is so emotionless. But it seems Adrian already knows about their whereabouts and reaches there with his men. Mother kills almost a dozen of Adrian’s men on snowmobiles. Zoe is currently with Mother’s former commander, but she escapes the place and reaches her mother. She helps her mother in killing the bad guys.

In the fight, Adrian manages to get hold of Zoe after injuring Mother. He pushes Zoe into the car and is driving away, but Mother gathers herself up and takes a shot from a sniper rifle. For a moment, it is believed that she couldn’t hit the target and cries hysterically, but the car slowly stops and it is revealed that her bullet pierced through his skull and has died.

Zoe and Mother are reunited.

‘The Mother’ Ending Explained: Is Zoe living with her biological mother?

Sadly, no! She couldn’t get the custody and Zoe is living with her foster parents. But she has taken an apartment close to Zoe’s school so that she can keep an eye on her and watch her play. The movie ends with Zoe skating and looking up at the apartment window, making eye contact with her real mother.

Mother is now wearing a bracelet with the word ‘mom’ on it.
