ENGLAND, LONDON: Set against the backdrop of a dystopian London, Netflix's latest release, 'The Kitchen', has landed with negative public reviews.

The movie, which delves into a dystopian society where class division is deeply ingrained, is co-directed by Kibwe Tavares and Daniel Kaluuya.

With its screening debut on Netflix, the movie first premiered at the 67th BFI London Film Festival on October 15, 2023, and later made its screen debut in select cinemas on January 12, 2024.

Netizens dismiss 'The Kitchen' as an outright snoozefest

The much-anticipated movie 'The Kitchen' has generally met with negative reviews, with many labeling it an absolute sleepfest.

Mocking the boring treatment of the movie, an X user wrote, "If you want a good movie to fall asleep to, watch the kitchen on Netflix.. that movie is a*s", said an X user.

'The Kitchen' has left viewers perplexed as to how it even managed to secure a place in the Netflix library.

Sharing their sentiments on X, a user wrote, "Can’t believe I just watched the whole ‘the kitchen’ absolutely f******g terrible. Dunno how it’s made it to Netflix that."

The movie has also failed to impress the critics and is being termed plain and bland. Taking a jibe at the title of the movie, an X user wrote, "They were not cooking anything good in The Kitchen on Netflix, unfortunately."  "The kitchen on Netflix was sadly disappointing, very slow and boring," wrote a social media user. While another X user rated movie as terrible and said, "Terrible Terrible film. 1/10".

An X user also complained about the overly dramatic tone of the movie without making any sense. They said, "The kitchen on Netflix had no storyline. Just dramatic for nothing. Didn’t make sense. They put the whole movie in the trailer too."

An X user pointed out, "TheKitchen not sure what to make of it really, in hindsight it should of been a series to get the character development it needed no many questions and so little answers."

Social media users also criticized Netflix's choice of productions, as an X user said, "Are Netflix allergic to making good films ? The Kitchen is terrible." While another wrote, "I don’t know what Netflix was thinking with this movie “The kitchen."

Although Kane Robinson's portrayal of Izi earns applause, many feel the storyline was the biggest turn-off of the movie. Exerting the same, a user wrote, "Kano’s acting is to superior for this kinda film. Didnt understand the story line one bit all i got from it was people who die ashes get put into plant pots."

What is the plot of 'The Kitchen'?

The story unfolds with the introduction of the high-rise-like slum 'The Kitchen'. The residents of the building are crammed inside the building and are even struggling for their basic needs.

The main lead, Izi, works at a burial center and has saved enough money to move into a single-occupancy Bueana Villa apartment. Izi's plans were suddenly derailed when he formed a fatherly attachment with his late ex-girlfriend's son.

The movie also dives into the story of a vigilante group that rebels against the government's inhuman treatment of society's people.
