'The King: Eternal Monarch' has come to an end and left us feeling bittersweet as that was the last of Lee Gon, Tae-eul, Jo Yeong, and Eun-seop that we will be seeing. It was great that Lee Gon and Tae-eul got their happy ending because fans were quite worried as the writer of the show, Kim Eun-sook, is well known for her sad endings like in 'Goblin'. So when Lee Gon and Tae-eul and got a happily ever after, fans loved it.

One excited fan wrote on Reddit, "So many feels. That was honestly one of the most rollercoastery-ride-finales ever and I am soo glad I got on this crazy f**king ride." This fan also added, "All my ships sailed. All of them. The story was tied nicely. My rom-com-loving-a** is happy."

Some fans also found the ending of 'The King: Eternal Monarch' similar to that of Son ye-jin and Hyun Bin's 'Crash Landing on You'. The latter also sees the lead couple not have a wedding but continue their relationship long-distance but they meet once a year in Switzerland while in the former Lee Gon and Tae-eul meet every weekend. A fan noted, "The ending reminds me of Crash Landing on You so much." Another fan wrote, "Meeting weekly, meeting yearly haha." This sentiment was shared as another pointed out, "Haha, much better bargain, and JTE (Tae-eul) and LG (Lee Gon) aren't just confined to one timeline and one world, lol."

Some found the ending of 'The King: Eternal Monarch' more efficient and effective. One fan wrote, "Yes, in terms of the main couple. Also, the finale of CLOY was too long."

Unexpectedly, now that the show is over, fans are thirsting over Lee Jung-jin, the actor who played the role of Lee Lim. One fan shared, "The drama is over so I'm gonna unrepentantly say it: Lee Lim fine as hell." Another fan agreed, "Amen. When he was shot in the in-between world place and they did that full-body shot as he fell. I found myself looking at his physique and thinking, he is sexy."

A few fans also shared their love for Kim Kyung-nam who plays the role of Shin-jae in the show and want to see him as the lead in a show soon. One fan shared, "WTH I'm gonna miss him so much Shin-jae honestly his character got exactly the fate he deserves, ended up with Luna too... please writers you know how to serve."

"I literally paused the show and was like let's walk it back a second that man better get a lead role soon," noted another fan.

Fans were disappointed with certain plot points like Jo yeong and Eun-seop not having a reunion or the fact that Court Lady Noh's past was not explained further. However, mostly the finale was well-received.

'The King: Eternal Monarch' was originally aired in South Korea on SBS at 10 pm on Fridays and Saturdays. The show can be streamed on Netflix in the US.
