'The Great Heist' or 'El Robo Del Siglo': Meet Paula Castaño, Christian Tappan and rest of the cast of Netflix true-crime show
'The Great Heist', originally titled 'El Robo Del Siglo', chronicles true events that took place on October 1994. The incident was labeled as the 'Robbery Of The Century'. Season 1 of the Colombian thriller has a short monologue type trailer that is quite thrilling and definitely gives us 'Money Heist' vibes. This is a cast that most in the United States may not recognize but the stars have been part of multiple big projects. Here is the talented cast of the series that took inspiration from the 2008 book by author and journalist Alfredo Serrano Zabala, according to Express. The book was titled 'This is How I Robbed the Bank: The Assault of the 20th Century in Colombia'.
Andres Parra
Parra is an actor and producer. His works include 'Without Papers' (2016) where he has producer and director credits. He played the role of a city manager in 'Last Straw' (2019) and also narrated 'Windswayer' (2018).
Christian Tappan
Tappan is known for his roles as Willy Rangel in 'La Reina del Sur' (2011-2019), Apache in 'Wild District' (2018), Octavio in 'Without Breasts There Is No Paradise' (2008) and a role in 'La Ley del Gris' (2000). This year, Rappan was nominated for the Platino Award for Best Supporting Actor in Miniseries or TV series for 'Wild District' which is originally titled 'Distrito Salvaje'. His most recent works include 'Snowfall' (2019), 'Running with the Devil' (2019), 'Decisions: Some Win and Others Lose' (2019) and 'Operación Pacífico' (2020). It has also been announced that he will play the role of Samper in the upcoming TV series 'Black or White, Never Gray.'
Marcela Benjumea
Benjumea is known for her roles as Forense in 'The Hidden Face' (2011), Gabriela in 'With the Lips Closed' (2015), Amalia in 'Amalia the Secretary' (2019) and Mireya Pinzon in 'La Nina' (2016). In 2017, she won a Premios Macondo for Best Supporting Actress in 'With the Lips Closed' and also won the Colombian Television Award for Best Supporting Actress for 'La Nina'. In 2016, Benjumea was nominated for Premios Macondo for Best Supporting Actress in 'El cartel de la papa' (2015). Her most recent works include 'La Mamá del 10' (2018), 'La Junta' (2019), 'Relatos Retorcidos: El palo del Ahorcado' (2019), and 'Libertador' (2020).
Waldo Urrego
Urrego is an actor and writer. His acting credits include his role as Pablo Morillo in 'Crónicas de una generación trágica' (1993), Capitán Hugo Escobar in 'La mujer del presidente' (1997), Edmundo De La Rosa in 'Cuando quiero llorar no lloro' (1991) and Preso Anciano in 'The Stolen Daughter' (2020). Urrego has two releases that have been announced — he will play the role of Román Zuñiga in the TV series 'La sustancia del mal' and Capitán Orlando Abaúnza in 'Black or White, Never Gray'. His writing credits include 'Ajuste de cuentas'.
Paula Castaño
Castaño is known for her roles as Valentina Rojas in 'Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan' (2019), Veronica in 'Wild District, Esmeralda Garcia in 'Conniing Renata' (2011-2012) and Hub-Tech Ximena in 'Sniper: Ultimate Kill' (2017). Her other recent and recognizable works include 'Empeliculados' (2017), 'Departures' (2020) and 'Antes De La Fiesta' (2017). She will play the role of Sara in the upcoming 'Tarumama' which is already in post-production.
Other cast members include Juan Sebastian Calero, Rodrigo Jerez, Juan Pablo Barragan and Ramses Ramos.
The official synopsis reads, "Inspired by the true events, 'The Great Heist' follows the assault on the Bank of the Republic, also known as 'the robbery of the century' perpetrated in October 1994. A band of thieves stole $33million and put the whole country upside down". According to reports of the true-crime event, a band of thieves had stolen millions from the country's central bank, the Bank of the Republic in Valledupar. Express reports that the thieves were professionals in quite a few fields, as the band included "established robbers, electronics specialist, four members of the police, the manager of the Agrarian Fund of a municipality of Cundinamarca and three officials from the bank itself, including a cashier, the treasurer and the manager of the security system."
