'The Good Place' Season 4 Episode 4: The experiment is starting to pick up, but has the Bad Place sent a fake Michael to sabotage it?
'The Good Place' is coming to an end soon, and Team Humans just have a few more episodes to prove once and for all, that they are worth more than the clearly flawed point system would suggest.
While Eleanor (Kristen Bell), Tahani (Jameela Jamil), Janet (D'Arcy Corden), Michael (Ted Dansen), and occasionally Jason (Manny Jacinto) painstakingly try to make the subjects — Chidi (William Jackson Harper), John (Brandon Scott Jones), Brent (Benjamin Koldyke), and Simone (Kirby Howell-Baptiste) — better humans at the fake Good Place, there is something dark and evil heading their way, and we don't know what yet.
In the previous episode, we saw Chidi getting too relaxed during his afterlife, thanks to the fact that he was surrounded by all the books he would ever want to read, and there was no pressure.
All that relaxing, however, meant that his overall points remained the same — no bad deed, but also no good deed. Moreover, Brent and John, who were both supposed to learn ethics from him stopped going to him and Chidi did not put any effort to make them better.
This allowed Eleanor and Michael to come up with a genius plan — put him under pressure. They introduced Jason as Jianyu, another one of the residents at the Good Place who would need ethics classes from him.
As soon as they leave the room, Jason confesses the truth to him. Basically he proves to Chidi that he doesn't belong in the Good Place and that he needs Chidi's help to stay here without being caught.
Chidi does what he does every time other humans confess this to him — he tries to make them better humans. However, Eleanor, who is still angry with Chidi for breaking up with her and erasing his memory for the greater good, pushes him too far.
She soon realizes that the only way to make him a better human is to introduce him to his ex-girlfriend Simone, who seems to think that everything happening in the afterlife is her comatose mind playing tricks on her.
With those two paired up, and John convinced by Tahani that the only way to feel inner peace is to stop chasing after the elusive "exclusive" status, and Brent being tricked into believing that there is a Best Place that he can get into if he gets better, it seems like the experiment is going on track.
Except, there is some sabotage that the Bad Place has planned, and it is heading to the fake Good Place even as we wait for season four episode three to drop.
When 'Tinker, Tailor, Demon, Spy' airs on Friday, October 17, we will find out if the fake Michael that Shawn (Marc Evan Jackson) had commissioned is on his way to ruin the experiment.
