'The Good Place' Season 4: Will Chidi fall in love with Eleanor once again, or will he go back to Simone?

The fact that Jason (Manny Jacinto) found his way back to Janet (D'Arcy Carden) gives us hope that Chidi and Eleanor will get their chance at eternal happiness by each other’s side.

Fans of ‘The Good Place’ have been waiting impatiently for the final and fourth season of the NBC series since January 24, and the only thing that has given us hope is Eleanor (Kristen Bell) telling Chidi (William Jackson Harper), "We'll be okay. We've found each other before hundreds of times. We can do it again."

Despite falling in love with each other in multiple timelines, Chidi and Eleanor will have to live like strangers in the new “Good Place.” After his former girlfriend Simone (Kirby Howell-Baptiste) was one of the four humans chosen by Shawn (Marc Evan Jackson) as part of their new experiment, Chidi decided humanity’s best chance of winning the Judge’s (Maya Rudolph) challenge is to erase his memories too.

The finale of season 3 was one of the most beautiful yet difficult episodes to watch, seeing this couple—that has grown in many ways over the last few hundred years—making a huge sacrifice for the sake of humanity.

Eleanor, especially, has come full circle as a character, and it was beautiful to see her realizing that the real “Good Place” is wherever the people she loves are.

We trust Michael Schur and the writers to bring them back together, but it may be a lot trickier that all the previous reboots, primarily because of the moral conundrum that Chidi would face in his attraction toward the “architect.” His morals would forbid him from actually acting on feelings he has towards her.

And, even if he did want to, Chidi has proved time and again that he is incapable to actually taking the first step. Back on earth, we saw how Eleanor had to step in and get the ball rolling for him and Simone.

The fact that Simone, his former lover, is in the picture is also going to be an issue. They did fall in love once, and it is not all that improbable for them to fall in love again, especially with Chidi not identifying or acting on his feelings for Eleanor, and latter spending all her time being the architect and saving humanity.

Then again, the fact that Jason (Manny Jacinto) found his way back to Janet (D'Arcy Carden) gives us hope that Chidi and Eleanor will get their chance at eternal happiness by each other’s side.

Don’t forget to watch the season 4 premiere of ‘The Good Place’ on September 26 to follow their journey.
