'The End of the F***ing World' season 2: Release date, plot, cast and everything you need to know about Channel 4-Netflix dark comedy

Charlie Covell's snappy, weird show follows James and Alyssa's crime-filled misadventures after they run away from home causing the police to go after them
PUBLISHED AUG 16, 2019

What happens when a self-proclaimed psychopath and a rebellious girl run away in Bonnie-and-Clyde fashion for different reasons? They fall in love while unwittingly committing crimes along the way. 'The End of the F***ing World' is about 17-year-old James who runs away with Alyssa intending to kill his first human.

Season 1 of the Channel 4 and Netflix produced show follows the misadventures of the two teenagers as Alyssa attempts to reconnect with her drug dealer-father, Leslie, and James grows reluctant to kill Alyssa as he falls in love with her.

On the way, they crash and burn James’ father’s car and end up killing a man in self-defense who turned out to be a serial rapist. Leslie ends up calling the law on the two teenagers to collect the reward, but before they can attempt to cross the English Channel to start over, the police armed unit catches up to them. James, in an attempt to save Alyssa, knocks her down and confesses to all the crimes while running away on the beach. The first series ends with the scene fading to black and a gunshot heard in the background.

Release Date

Season 2 of the show began filming in March 2019 and while it is expected to premiere on Channel 4 by the end of 2019, it could take a year from its TV airing to appear on Netflix due to the increased popularity of the show.

Plot

While plot details of season 2 have not been revealed, the cast has been sharing their hopes for what their characters could be up to. Jessica Barden, who plays Alyssa, expressed her wish for a musical beginning to Season 2. According to Alex Lawther, the actor who portrays James, the original ending showed it was more likely that James died.
