Some fans call it a 'modern day West Wing'
One of the fans wrote, “The Diplomat, new on Netflix. 1st episode starts a bit all over the place but by the end settles into an entertaining rhythm. Great cast. Hooked me already. As the reviews have said, a modern-day West Wing quality drama.” Another social media user wrote, “The Diplomat’s writing is sharp as hell. Bravo to Debora Cahn and company.” Another fan noted, “Watching ‘The Diplomat’. Fantastic! It's like West Wing, Madam Secretary, Covert Affairs, & House of Cards all in one anchored in a powerhouse of a female lead. Keri Russell is perfection.”

“The Diplomat could be the smartest thing I've seen on Netflix. West Wing for grown-ups (i.e. minus the self-satisfaction with its own cleverness, the centrist jingoism, the American exceptionalism) — alternately, Le Carre with a functioning libido. Strong writing, invested cast,” wrote another fan. “The Diplomat on Netflix is a terrific show, at the end of the season I was on the edge of my seat,” wrote another social media user. “Oh my God. The Diplomat on Netflix is soooo good. Fantastic pace towards a nail-biting cliff hanger finale. Can't wait for season 2. Wonder if this was what Night Agent was aiming for if it wasn’t so daft,” tweeted another social media user.
