LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Netflix has an abundance of amazing political dramas and it keeps on adding new titles to satisfy its subscribers. The streaming platform is set to expand its catalog with the release of the upcoming series ‘The Diplomat’. The series primarily focuses on a diplomat named Kate Wyler (Keri Russell) who is given a task to decrease the problems between two nations so that a war can be avoided. However, a lot of people believe that she is unsuited for this job because she wasn’t the one who was supposed to do this difficult job.

Wyler is the new US Ambassador to the United Kingdom and she was supposed to go to Afghanistan because she has proven her worth in a crisis zone. But it seems war is brewing on one continent and boiling over on another. Kate has been sent to the UK to diffuse these international crises and adjust to her new life. However, maintaining peace in the world is not the only difficult situation she’s facing in her life, there’s a lot happening in her personal life as well. Things are not looking good for her and she has to overcome everything to be the “perfect” diplomat.

The series has been created by Debora Cahn who is known for working on projects such as ‘The West Wing’ and ‘Homeland’, two of the most extraordinary political dramas of all time. Both these shows took a lot of inspiration from what was happening in the world at the time and it seems ‘The Diplomat’ follows the same format. However, a lot of people believe that the upcoming Netflix series might be based on a true story or takes inspiration from some real-life events that occurred in the recent past.

So, let’s take a look if ‘The Diplomat’ is based on a true story or not.

Is ‘The Diplomat’ based on a true story?

Unfortunately, ‘The Diplomat’ is not based on a true story, but it features several moments that would make viewers realize that they have read or seen something similar in the news headlines. According to the show’s creator, the world of politics and diplomats always intrigued her, and thought of producing the series when she met a number of ambassadors while working on the series ‘Homeland’.

The work of the Foreign Service is undoubtedly one of the most stressful jobs in the world and their main job is to represent and protection of the interests and nationals of the sending state. Their work also includes negotiating treaties and international agreements. So, being a foreign diplomat is never easy because you have to be on your toes every single moment of your life and things get even worse if something bad happens. The ongoing Russia-Ukraine war is a prime example of how diplomats have to adapt to situations and get their people out of such dangerous situations.

The upcoming Netflix series will give viewers an idea of how these diplomats lead their lives and how it affects their personal lives as well.
