'The Conners' Season 3 Premiere Preview: Louise is back in the house, but who is Tito played by Danny Trejo?
Shifting gears from being a Thursday night show for two seasons, ABC's 'Roseanne' spin-off 'The Conners' is finally premiering this Wednesday, October 21, with a brand new third season. There's the pandemic, there's financial crisis, there's a new member in the already crowded Conners' home and everything else that makes the new sitcom just as much of a household name as the parent show was.
With a season premiere right after the lockdown rules start loosening, here's what's to expect in the pilot. According to the official synopsis given by ABC for Season 3 Episode 1, the premiere will see "The Conners dealing with the pandemic and life's financial troubles; the Lunch Box is closed for everything but takeout and delivery; Becky and Darlene are both forced to search for additional income at the newly reopened Wellman Plastics plant."
Teaser snippets and photos released for the season so far both hint at Danny Trejo dropping by in the premiere as a guest appearance. Clad in a creepy-smiling mask of Trejo's own face, the actor plays Tito, a next-door neighbor. Tito can be seen dropping by the Conners' house seeking some advice, as well as carrying a surprise for the family patriarch Dan (John Goodman.) Speaking of John, his girlfriend Louise (Katey Segal) is also going to be pretty involved with the lives of the Conners this season.
“We couldn’t have Louise buzzing in and out whenever she wants, so she’s quarantining with the family,” showrunner Bruce Helford told TV Insider. This will clearly be a difficult adjustment for Louise who has never really been part of such a tight-knit family life before, added the show boss.
“She was a musician and always on the road. And she never got married and didn’t have kids. She’s used to living alone.” But this Louise will bloom into the matriarch the family just might need as the sisters Becky and Darlene continue to grapple under the ongoing crisis amidst a pandemic.
Helford had also teased a realistic portrayal of the pandemic in this season, reminding us during the show's virtual press panel on September 30. "I know there are a lot of shows that probably aren't going to be reflecting what's really going on, but we felt that it was an obligation to our viewers and to stay relevant and to show them what it's like for a family that knows how to get through hard times but is thrown a curve like never before."
'The Conners' Season 3 premieres Wednesday, October 21 at 9 pm ET/PT on ABC.
